Red Wings is an airline based in Moscow, Russia. The airline provides both scheduled passenger and cargo charter services.
[edit] History
Red Wings was established in 1999 under the name VARZ-400 after the Vnukovo Avia Repair Factory (abbreviated VARZ in Russian). It was renamed Airlines 400 in 2001, before being assigned its current name in 2007.
It is owned now by the tycoon Alexander Lebedev who decided to create a discounter using modern Russian Tupolev Tu-204-100 aircraft. This airline is intended to become a primary operator of these planes by both ordering new ones and buying a few used ones. He also owns 49% of German discounter airline Blue Wings that will become a sister company to the Red Wings.
[edit] Fleet
The Red Wings fleet comprises the following aircraft (as of May 2008):
- 2 Tupolev Tu-154M (one aircraft is leased from Bulgarian Air Charter and one aircraft is operated by Yakutia Airlines)
- 4 Tupolev Tu-204
