[edit] Naming conventions
What do you think of the allopathic discussion, in light of this WP:policy? [1] I think it's applicable, and fits well with the compromise we've hammered out, and I'd be interested to see if you have any further thoughts. Thanks, Antelantalk 20:13, 31 May 2008 (UTC)
- I'm not sure what you mean. I'm going to wait a bit before messing with the article, as there seems to be some work being done on it. Phlegm Rooster (talk) 07:18, 1 June 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Problem with finding population figures
Not an easy task I;m afraid for some third world countries as they haven't published data online. Falling grain indicates these places you tagged have an average around 2000 - 2500 people but the exact figure from that site can't really be taken as fully 100% accurate. Such a pity the lack of eveness online as I'm certain a lot could be said about these places on paper ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 10:46, 3 June 2008 (UTC)
- That's why I prodded them. Phlegm Rooster (talk) 10:48, 3 June 2008 (UTC)
- And I removed the prods. The general concensus is that all settlements are notable, and pretty much every one survives at AFD. I'm an Editorofthewiki[citation needed] 10:54, 3 June 2008 (UTC)
- Without a population figure, how do we know it is a settlement? Phlegm Rooster (talk) 10:55, 3 June 2008 (UTC)

- A number of sites clarify they are "populated places". But you must have seen some of the villages on the news and even the smaller settlements are crowded with people. They are real places with real people with real histories. I'd rather have a lot the write about them too. I wonder if there are any Afghans on here which could find something ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 11:07, 3 June 2008 (UTC)
I've done some research and have found this statement "The only previous population census in Afghanistan was a partial, incomplete one conducted in 1979. Consequently, there currently exists a very limited ...
I googled Afghanistan census.... SO only one incomlete census of the country was conducted in 1979. SO modern day population figures is actually impossible as there hasn't been a census in nearly 30 years due to political reasons. ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 10:58, 3 June 2008 (UTC)
- So give the 1979 figure, why not? Phlegm Rooster (talk) 11:00, 3 June 2008 (UTC)
Tisn't available online,. Probably has been destroyed during the Afghan war in the 80s or at least of not then by the Taliban even on paper. Perhaps its time the new government thought about doing one which is extremely difficult due the circumstances in that country ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 11:03, 3 June 2008 (UTC).
- So, a town may have been depopulated, and we would have no way of knowing. That's why a population figure is so important. Phlegm Rooster (talk) 11:08, 3 June 2008 (UTC)
Yes I've seen that map before but the more you study things like that the more you realize that even these provinces let alone the whole countries are very large and it is awful that there is practically nothing online about them. Badakhshan Province covvers 44,000 square kilometres, this is why I find it frustrating when people think there is nothing notable to be added within that area. If you see the Badakhsan page there are around 825,000 people living in that province. Just imagine if we didn't have any articles on an area with 825,000 people in the UNited States. iNterestingly the 1979 figure is also given, I'll have a look around but I doubt we'll find anything on the web ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 11:17, 3 June 2008 (UTC)
- Doesn't have to be online. Phlegm Rooster (talk) 11:24, 3 June 2008 (UTC)
Here are some limited sources World gazetteer only lists the main cites and this site only names the districts and their population. But that page was drawn up using a paper soource from the Afghan Centrla Bureau of Statistsics. You;d think something would be avilable on paper ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 11:25, 3 June 2008 (UTC)
- I don't think WP:N is the issue, it's WP:V. Phlegm Rooster (talk) 11:40, 3 June 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Why was BBTS speedy deleted?
I don't have what I put on the page, but they're a notable group within the field of transfusion medicine, they publish a respected research journal, run conferences, provide scientific advice to the NHS, etc...
They're a specialized group, and marginally notable to the public at large, especially outside of the UK, but speedily deleting them seems highly inappropriate. Professional organizations at a national level are not someone's garage band. Somedumbyankee (talk) 16:02, 8 June 2008 (UTC)
- It was for not asserting importance or notability. You've said more about it just now on my talk page than in the original article; just recreate it with more text and I'm sure it'll survive. Phlegm Rooster (talk) 18:17, 8 June 2008 (UTC)
