Petrovice u Karviné (help·info) (1920-1952: Petrovice)[1] (Polish: Piotrowice koło Karwiny (info), German: Petrowitz bei Freistadt) is a village in Karviná District, Moravian-Silesian Region, Czech Republic. It has a population of 5,211 (2006), 16.2% of the population are the Poles.[2] It lies on the border with Poland, in the historical region of Cieszyn Silesia. The Petrůvka River flows through the village and enters the Olza River in Závada.
The village lies five kilometers north of the city centre of Karviná, next to the border with Poland. The villages of Dolní Marklovice, Prstná and Závada are administratively part of Petrovice.
The village is the site of the important railway border crossing to Zebrzydowice in Poland and it has also three road border crossings.
