[edit] WikiProject Novels

Just been pointed here by User:Kingboyk and like what I see. Could you please add {{NovelsWikiProject}} with support for assessment comment pages.

{{NovelsWikiProject

}}

Thanks for you consideration. :: Kevinalewis : (Talk Page)/(Desk) 13:19, 4 April 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for adding it - are you able to support some of the other parameters - particularly the "task forces". In terms of the options all are listed above other than the "Class" and "Importance" standard ones. :: Kevinalewis : (Talk Page)/(Desk) 09:59, 5 April 2007 (UTC)
Support for basic parameters beyond "Class" and "Importance" seems not supported!:: Kevinalewis : (Talk Page)/(Desk) 08:59, 10 April 2007 (UTC)
At this time I will only support the "standard" parameters for this template. But it sounds like you are having trouble getting the script to work at all? –Outriggr § 04:56, 12 April 2007 (UTC)
Could you look at adding the extra parameters please, and the problem only occur when some parameters have already been set. What happens is the "importance" box is not appearing. :: Kevinalewis : (Talk Page)/(Desk) 09:26, 13 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] WikiProject Denmark

Could you please add {{WikiProject Denmark|class=|importance=}} to the script? Thanks, Hemmingsen 09:37, 5 April 2007 (UTC)

Done.–Outriggr § 04:56, 12 April 2007 (UTC)

Can you also add:

  • {{WikiProject Tennis|class=|importance=}}
  • {{WikiProject Serbia|class=|importance=}}

Thanks --Göran Smith 21:12, 11 April 2007 (UTC)

Both done. The first is called {{WP-Tennis}}. –Outriggr § 04:56, 12 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Question

Can't work out what the initial "3 assessed" type message means. :: Kevinalewis : (Talk Page)/(Desk) 13:24, 5 April 2007 (UTC)

It's a count of the number of articles you've assessed. MahangaTalk 22:16, 8 April 2007 (UTC)
If it is it appears to go up and down - which is mystifying. :: Kevinalewis : (Talk Page)/(Desk) 08:55, 10 April 2007 (UTC)
I have no explanation. If your browser's cookie is deleted/reset, the counter will begin at zero again.–Outriggr § 04:56, 12 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] additions

Please add filmbio-work-group to list of workgroups for WPBiography. In addition, please add {{WikiProject Radio}}.--PhantomS 05:50, 11 April 2007 (UTC)

Both done. –Outriggr § 04:56, 12 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] More redirect issues

moved from archived thread about previous rdr issues

I am currently having redirect problems as well. Not sure if it is the same problem, but try assessing Simon Fraser (American football)--BirgitteSB 19:58, 11 April 2007 (UTC)

I didn't mean to move your message to the archives, and did mean to reply to it... However, I think you are confusing an unrelated issue with this script. When the article Simon Fraser (American football) was redirected from Simon Fraser (football player), the talk page didn't get redirected. The script is naturally trying to place the template on the talk page associated with the current article name. To fix this, you would redirect Talk:Simon Fraser (football player) to Talk:Simon Fraser (American football) and place the talk page contents of the former onto the latter. Then assess it. –Outriggr § 18:41, 12 April 2007 (UTC)
Ah! Ok that makes sense. I didn't realize the article is messed up to begin with. Thanks. --BirgitteSB 19:46, 12 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] WPBiography

Just installed and tried your script, and it's real handy for assessing articles on the fly whilst one is browsing. Nice work! :)

There's a slight issue with support for WPBio, which you can see if you visit Jeff Jones (music industry executive) - the article is assessed but shows as unassessed. The reason is that {{WPBeatles}} (and {{KLF}}) support the WPBio parameters and replace {{WPBiography}} (I wrote much of all three). Unfortunately and totally unsurprisingly, the script doesn't know that. --kingboyk 13:30, 12 April 2007 (UTC)

Also, it would be good if the script removed the auto=yes parameter when a user assesses an article. As you probably know, this parameter is set by some bots when auto-assessing articles as Stub class. --kingboyk 22:26, 13 April 2007 (UTC)

Hi, and thank you. The latter is a good suggestion and I have incorporated it now. I think the Beatles and KLF exceptions are rare enough that I would prefer not to introduce special logic for them. Thanks for the comments! Oh, is auto=yes used for projects other than WPB? Right now I think I have it limited to WPB. –Outriggr § 02:02, 14 April 2007 (UTC)
No, some other projects use it. I forget which exactly, but MILHIST is one major project which certainly does. There's also several thousand talk pages out there which use the {{stubclass}} template directly. --kingboyk 12:15, 14 April 2007 (UTC)
Very nice edit. Thanks! --kingboyk 16:28, 15 April 2007 (UTC)
Thanks. Do you have an example of an article with {{stubclass}} used directly? "What links here" doesn't help. –Outriggr § 00:24, 18 April 2007 (UTC)
Talk:A Man and a Woman (song), or anything else in Category:Automatically assessed song articles. --kingboyk 15:11, 19 April 2007 (UTC)

How about adding the needs infobox and needs photo parameters? If it's any incentive, my plugin does this in assessments mode ;) (not that you need to compete, you already won :)) --kingboyk 15:11, 19 April 2007 (UTC)

These parameters I will get to someday, I hope. I didn't realize I'd won, but thanks! If it's any consolation, yours probably required way more programming know-how! –Outriggr § 00:29, 3 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Enhancement requests

Please could I ask you to add two changes / enhancements.

  • Currently when you assess a new article (at least for NovelsWikiProject) the "class" will be written entirely lowercase, and the importance/priority will be written with an initial uppercase. The norm appears to be for these two parameters to be initial uppercase. This is highlighted when the template reports the settings in the text. (see. Talk:Diziet Sma as an example).
  • Currently it is very clear from the colour and text and also the entry in the dropdown box what the "current" class is, however nothing gives the "current" importance/priority. Can this be enhanced please.
Kevinalewis : (Talk Page)/(Desk) 09:25, 13 April 2007 (UTC)
Kevin, I have made some modifications to accommodate both of the above, and they seem to be working. –Outriggr § 02:02, 14 April 2007 (UTC)
Superb - thanks for the prompt response - I think the result is a lot nicer - hope you do too. :: Kevinalewis : (Talk Page)/(Desk) 10:18, 16 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] List class option

Please add List as a class assessment option for WikiProject Radio. --PhantomS 02:34, 16 April 2007 (UTC)

Added. –Outriggr § 00:24, 18 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] WP Australia

If you have the time can you please add {{WP Australia|class=|importance=}} to the script?--VS talk 12:17, 17 April 2007 (UTC)

I've added this. Let me know if it you have any trouble. –Outriggr § 00:24, 18 April 2007 (UTC)

Thank you - that's brilliant. I will try it out and give you some feedback. Cheers!--VS talk 00:52, 18 April 2007 (UTC)

  • Okay first try on WP Australia (and this did happen to me last night on bio's also) I get the following "error" message at the top of the talk page ... Sorry! We could not process your edit due to a loss of session data. Please try again. If it still doesn't work, try logging out and logging back in. I then have to manually do a save from the bottom of the talk page. Any thoughts?--VS talk 01:09, 18 April 2007 (UTC)
G'day! This is not an error. The script is designed to show you the talk page in "preview" mode before you save it. This is to allow the user to confirm that the edit is correct before saving, so you need to press Save (ALT-S) to finish the assessment. The message "Sorry!..." always appears, but does not do any harm. While it is probably possible to directly save the talk page from the script, I haven't implemented that yet (for "safety" reasons, not technical ones). –Outriggr § 01:24, 18 April 2007 (UTC)
  • Thanks for your answer (which I kind of half expected was the reason). I will save as per (ALT-S) or mouse click. Cheers again.--VS talk 01:35, 18 April 2007 (UTC)
If anyone is interested, I use a simple bit of javascript to add a [Save] tab on the top of the page. This way, I can do it solely with my mouse and don't have to scroll down. MahangaTalk 01:41, 18 April 2007 (UTC)
//saving tab
addOnloadHook(addsaveaction);
function addsaveaction() {
 if(document.title.indexOf('Editing ') == 0) addPortletLink('p-cactions','javascript:document.getElementById("wpSave").click();','save','Save');
}
  • Interesting thank you.--VS talk 02:23, 18 April 2007 (UTC)

Could the following parameters be added to the script for WP:AUS:

Thanks,--cj | talk 09:28, 18 April 2007 (UTC)

I'm not clear on this. Do you mean if the template is added by the script to a page that doesn't already have it, you want all of the above text added? Or are you asking to be able to select those elements in the script interface? The latter I probably can't accommodate. The former makes me wonder, don't you only want to add the parameters that you actually say "yes" to? For example, for the Biography template, one would add "s&a-workgroup=yes" (or whatever) if it's a science biography, but there is no need (that I know of) to have the blank entries "royalty-workgroup=|filmbio-workgroup=|...". Kingboyk, if you see this by chance, what is the agreed upon approach with large project templates when it comes to adding a bunch of blank and probably not applicable parameters to every talk page? –Outriggr § 02:48, 19 April 2007 (UTC)
Sorry for the confusion; I simply formatted the request per an example higher up on the page. Essentially, all I would like is to be able to select the relevant subprojects (workgroups) when assessing, as is possible with WPBiography. If possible, it would also be handy to be able to select whether an article is an orphan or needs attention or an infobox.--cj | talk 03:00, 19 April 2007 (UTC)
OK... this is a good idea, but it will be a while before I get around to incorporating it. I will need to restructure the program to act more "generally" on templates before I can support workgroups/etc. for any template. I have to do so, because it isn't feasible to add "special case" code for the growing number of project templates that might require it. In the mean time, I hope you can be patient and still use the script! –Outriggr § 03:37, 19 April 2007 (UTC)
Certainly I can wait! The tool is still immensely useful, even without support for WP:AUS workgroups. I look forward to the updates. Thanks, --cj | talk 06:19, 19 April 2007 (UTC)
Not sure there's an agreed upon on approach, but my bot removes empty workgroup params and so on, and nobody's complained about it. I prefer to just leave behind placeholders for the more essential parameters. --kingboyk 15:13, 19 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] An Error?

While going through articles, I came upon Mitigation of global warming where the bot states that it's an A-Class article. But when I go to the talk page there's no sign that it is in fact an A-Class article. I asked User:Mahanga and he says he doesn't know either. Can someone check if this is an error? OhanaUnited 17:54, 17 April 2007 (UTC)

This is rare coincidence. A link in the talk page has the phrase "class=a" which is what cues the script to display the article as A class. It won't happen anywhere else. –Outriggr § 00:24, 18 April 2007 (UTC)
While going through Anaerobic digestion, I know it has been rated. However, it never gets disappeared from Category:Unassessed-Class Environment articles. I have force refreshed the page already. OhanaUnited 00:40, 19 April 2007 (UTC)
I don't see any problems on the talk page. If the article is still appearing in the unassessed category, it would be a problem with the Environment template. You should ask about this at the project page. –Outriggr § 02:48, 19 April 2007 (UTC)
I guess it's because it is assessed with a mid importance but it's not in parameter. Is this the reason why it doesn't get sorted correctly? OhanaUnited 05:31, 19 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] More MILHIST....

Hey, it's me again... The tool is working great, but WP:MILHIST has added a few new task forces - could you add them to the script? The new task forces are: Middle Eastern military history, Ottoman military history, South American military history. Let me know if you need any more info, and thanks again for such a useful tool. Carom 23:07, 18 April 2007 (UTC)

You're welcome! I will add these new task forces shortly. –Outriggr § 02:48, 19 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] WP Indonesia

What a nice tool! If you have time, could you please also add:

{{WP Indonesia
|importance=
|class=
|attention=<yes> or blank
|collaboration-candidate= <yes> or blank
|past-collaboration= <date>-<date> or blank
|peer-review= <yes> or blank

[edit] Request for WPFC

I'm a script newbie and I only just found out about this particular tool. Fantastic work.

Would it be possible to add {{WPFC}} from WP Former countries? The banner has a lot of other fields, but the important ones are given here: apart from the class, there are 2 taskforces and a couple of requests which all require the input "yes" to fire.

{{WPFC
|class=
|HRE-taskforce=
|GOV-taskforce=
|flagneeded=
|coatneeded=
|mapneeded=
|infoboxneeded=
|structureneeded=
}}

Thanks in advance. - 52 Pickup 13:09, 19 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Another script newbie

But I hope I can help this great idea. The behaviour on my setup seems to have a teeny bug. This seems to occur when I click the

  • [On] • [Hide] • [Off]

it responds as I would expect. But if I click them again, they don't seem to work. I tried refreshing the page and get

  • [On] • [Hide] • [Off] [On] • [Hide] • [Off] (the buttons duplicated)

Secondly, I imagine this script will be very useful for dealing with biota. These are often 'placeholder' stubs and starts that are produced in large numbers. Do I just add the relevant projects or do you need to make them available? Thanks for working to make other editors work easier. Fred 01:52, 20 April 2007 (UTC)

Hi Fred. I'm aware of that glitch but haven't fixed it yet. Yes, I would need to add the relevant projects first, but I'm not sure I understand your whole question. Could you give me some examples of the projects/templates/articles you're referring to? Thanks. –Outriggr § 08:01, 29 April 2007 (UTC)
Thanks Outriggr. The section here contains the projects relating to animals and plants etc. Section 4.4 is the Tree of Life project which contains a potentially gigantic number of articles. Geographical projects sometimes have a |biota=yes parameter. Your tool would be helpful to editors who deal with these. Regards, ☻ Fred|discussion|contributions 08:29, 29 April 2007 (UTC)

Thanks. I generally add templates based on specific requests, so if you'd like to begin with say, Plants, I can add it. With the current structure of the script, including projects that no one has specifically requested only increases the script's size with little benefit. –Outriggr § 08:53, 29 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Russia/Russian history conflict

It seems that when I try to assess articles for WikiProject Russia, but the project banner for WikiProject Russian history is already present (and the WikiProject Russia template not), that the script adds the rating to the Russian history project instead of adding the Russia project. See this diff. Errabee 17:13, 25 April 2007 (UTC)

This is fixed now! –Outriggr § 08:01, 29 April 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for your trouble, but now I am quite unable to assess articles with the WikiProject Russian History on them. It simply won't do any edit at all. Errabee 04:22, 30 April 2007 (UTC)
This does not apply to WikiProject Russia (which works correctly now, thank you), but for other projects like WPBiography. Errabee 04:32, 30 April 2007 (UTC)
What browser do you use? –Outriggr § 04:36, 30 April 2007 (UTC)
Firefox 2.0.0.3 Errabee 05:00, 30 April 2007 (UTC)
I've tried to duplicate your problem, but I can't. Maybe you're running a cached version - press ctrl-shift-R to reload scripts etc. If this doesn't help, you could give me a specific example. –Outriggr § 05:08, 30 April 2007 (UTC)
It seems the problem has indeed solved itself. I can't duplicate it either now, although it had happened to me on several pages. Errabee 11:37, 30 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Script problem

When I click on them, it redirects me to talk page but does not change the actual article (or add assessment to the template). However, it does write edit summary. OhanaUnited 03:12, 3 May 2007 (UTC)

It's hard to help - it appears to be working for other people. –Outriggr § 08:23, 6 May 2007 (UTC)
This has also happened to me several times, actually. Yesterday, however, this happened. Not sure why it did that. --PresN 15:44, 12 May 2007 (UTC)
I don't know why it messed up like that the one time, but I think the reason it wasn't assessing at all sometimes is because I had my monobook set up with CVGproj rather than Cvgproj. I'm not sure how it's been working at all like that, but it seems to be fine now that I've fixed it. --PresN 16:49, 14 May 2007 (UTC)
I've noticed this bug in a different way. When trying to assess articles for WikiProject Radio, I've noticed that the script will fill in the edit summary without actually editing the talk page if the article has the project's tag without parameters ( {{WikiProject Radio}} ) already on the talk page. --PhantomS 03:18, 17 May 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for the bug reports. PhantomS, I think I've fixed the bug you mentioned. I'm going to pretend PresN's bug was a freak thing. So, all is well - until someone finds that the latest tweak has made something else break. :) –Outriggr § 04:27, 20 May 2007 (UTC)

Can you fix {{WP SCOTUS}} to {{WP_SCOTUS}} as that is how the unassessed articles are currently coded. Additionally can you make sure that the template when edited adds all of the fields of the template:

{{WP SCOTUS|class= |importance= |needs infobox= |flag= }}

[edit] unwatching

Couldn't find any mention of this prev, but I'm going through pages that I watch and the script seems to uncheck the watch box, so (being a bit dim) I have to go back through things and rewatch a number of pages. Is there a switch to enable watching or do I just remember to recheck the box when saving? Thanks.--Bookandcoffee 01:21, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

Quite surprising this hasn't come up before, and I don't like it! There may be no way around it, but I'll have to investigate. I'm trying to think of how much bother this could be, given that you only assess an article once? I mean, if I have X articles on my watchlist because I'm interested in them with respect to a wikiproject, chances are I've assessed them already... –Outriggr § 05:13, 26 May 2007 (UTC)
Yeah, except the assessment project came around some time after I started watching. :) No big deal, I think you might be right in the long run, that assessment and watching are closely related. (Besides, I only have 464 more to go.) I saw your "Known issues" note - at least that gives people the heads up. Cheers, and thanks for the script, it is a handy thing.--Bookandcoffee 05:46, 26 May 2007 (UTC)
