I have added the information that mandeville has been damaged by Katrina, i dont like the word usage i used, but i will fix it.

Dew Drop Dance Hall? What happened to the pun? When I was growing up, every southern town had a black bar called the Dew Drop Inn. I think one of Little Richard's pre-Specialty songs was called that. So, I wonder about the name given here. Ortolan88

Apparently not, according to the web pages (adding to article), but I wonder? Ortolan88

Wait a minute, one of those was your web page, and it's titled Mandeville's Historic Dew Drop Inn Dance Hall. Now, I'm confused again. Ortolan88

Hm. According to the cornerstone, it seems to be the "Dew Drop Social and Benevolent No. 2 of Mandeville" (I believe the Dew Drop #1 was a smaller building that existed for a decade before the current one was built.) My webpage on it links to a page on the old city of Mandeville site which unfortunately seems to be down now. I have heard people call this "Dew Drop Inn", though some prefer to reserve that name for a more famous venue in New Orleans. Was it the White Knight in Alice through the Looking Glass who pointed out that what something was, what its name is, and what it is called are not necessarily the same thing? Early New Orleans jazz reasearch is loaded with examples of this. (eg, Bolden played at the Union Sons Hall, which was named Kinney's Hall, and called The Funky Butt.) -- Infrogmation
I believe in the power of the pun, and I found several references to the Mandeville site under the name Dew Drop Inn, so that's why I changed it. I wonder where the original "Chicken Shack" was. Ortolan88
  • "Hundreds of dance halls across the South were named in its honor" ...Um, is there a source on that or is it just supposition? wondering simply, -- Infrogmation

I surrender, dear. Changed to vaguer, but I know there were many, many of that name. Ortolan88

[edit] Roadmap

Hello everyone, I deleted the "roadmap" from this page because it was very difficult to read, and therefore, was redundant because the it adds little in addition to the infobox map. Let me know what you think. AlphaEta 20:14, 17 October 2007 (UTC)
