I modified the statement which claimed a dry western Gentilly without the western breach. If there has been an engineering report saying so, give the source. Otherwise, it is speculation. I have reason to doubt it-- If any of the three major Pontchartrain drainage canal breaches had held, certainly the area right by the breach would have been spared the storm surge, but I doubt the water level would have been massively different. At best, it might have slowed down the flooding-- creating a situation similar to Broadmoor or the lower lying portions of Carrollton far from the breaches which were still dry Tuesday morning only to flood soon after as the water from other parts of town came up rapidly out of the storm drains as the pumps failed. -- Infrogmation 18:58, 19 July 2006 (UTC)
