[edit] new Article
I have added the Australian city info box and cleaned up the introduction. I have spent considerable time on the Gold Coast article and I have every intention of creating this article on Logan similar standard. Please feel free to post your comments here. DB 12:13, 30 January 2006 (UTC)
[edit] The logo...
Currently Image:Logan_city_council_logo.jpg has been tagged for deletion because of its alleged fair use nature and the mere fact it's orphaned. There are so many logos used with justification on Wikipeida, I'm wondering why this one was singled out. Peter1968 10:08, 3 February 2007 (UTC)
- It wasn't singled out; a bot tagged it during routine checks. It's just one of the rules - things can't be on Wikipedia under claims of fair use when they aren't actually being used anywhere. If you want to save the logo, add it to the article, then remove the orphaned tag from the image page. If you can't find a use for it in this article, then it is appropriate that it be deleted. - It was part of this article once upon a time. It was removed from it and you (Hesperian) actually edited the picture at some time. Oh well, too bad, so sad. If someone thinks it needs to be deleted, then delete it. Peter1968 22:57, 3 February 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Article Title
Can I suggest that this article be renamed "Logan, Queensland", rather than "Logan City Council". No other city in Queensland includes "City Council" in the Wikipedia title. Also, I would suggest that the term "Logan" not "Logan City" be used throughout the article for a comparable reason.
I am not sure how to add a citation, but I have found a good source for Logan's population: http://www.oesr.qld.gov.au/queensland-by-theme/demography/population/tables/erp/erp-qld-cities/index.shtml (cites Australian Bureau of Statistics as its source). I changed the population in the article to the predicted 2006 population.
This source can be used as a citation for "Queensland's third largest city": http://www.totaltravel.com.au/travel/qld/brisbanearea/southernbrisbanelogancity/guide/logan-ci--Clancycol 21:14, 15 June 2007 (UTC)
- The Logan, Queensland format is for cities and towns. The Logan City Council format is for local government areas. In this case, there is no such town called "Logan" in Queensland, but there is an LGA named "Logan City Council". Hesperian 23:49, 5 July 2007 (UTC)

- Logan, Queensland is a city. See: http://www.oesr.qld.gov.au/queensland-by-theme/demography/population/tables/erp/erp-qld-cities/index.shtml which lists Logan as a city in Queensland (cites: Australian Bureau of Statistics).--Clancycol 10:42, 14 July 2007 (UTC)

- The ultimate authority on Australian place names is the Gazetteer of Australia. It is online here. A search for places named "Logan" in Queensland yields this. Hesperian 12:09, 14 July 2007 (UTC)

- The cited link is actually not to "cities" but to LGAs - it is a straight copy off the ABS website. I live in the City of Stirling in WA, which is definitely not a "city" in any sense other than that it includes nearly 200,000 people within a set of arbitrarily drawn boundaries - but on this site it says "Stirling (C)" the same way. Agreed with Hesperian here, there is no place called Logan per se (its centre is in a named suburb). In other parts of Australia (and even Queensland) the correct term would be "City of Logan", but it seems this name is only used by state government entities and some contractors - the council's own page and other sources use "Logan City Council" to refer to both the area and its governing body. - Yeah, they do the same thing in South Australia. It is very strange to those of us who are used to the opposite. In W.A. there is a tendency to go the other way e.g. the Albany City Council now refers to itself as the "City of Albany" (a registered trademark even!) wherever possible. But I digress.... [edit] Uncited info
I am proposing to remove uncited info from Feb 2007 in socioeconomics unless anyone can find the correct citations. does not seem reliable as it stands. Michellecrisp 08:02, 12 July 2007 (UTC)
- I would support this - most of it is clearly WP:OR. Orderinchaos 13:28, 15 July 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Population
I have amended the population figure to match the latest ABS figure (Estimated Resident Population at 30 June 2007, Logan = 180,358). The source url is: http://www.abs.gov.au/ausstats/abs@.nsf/Latestproducts/3218.0Main%20Features72006-07?opendocument&tabname=Summary&prodno=3218.0&issue=2006-07&num=&view=. The article title is: 3218.0 - Regional Population Growth, Australia, 2006-07 (released 31/03/2008). Could someone amend the source for this because I could not figure out how. --Clancycol (talk) 18:35, 30 May 2008 (UTC)
- My mistake, since the amalgamation in March 2008 with parts of the Gold Coast and northern Beaudesert Shire, Logan now has a population of 261,000 according to the Logan City Council web site, http://www.logan.qld.gov.au/LCC/logan/profile/quickfacts.htm --Clancycol (talk) 18:48, 30 May 2008 (UTC)
