List of linguists

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A linguist in the academic sense is a person who studies linguistics. Ambiguously, the word is sometimes also used to refer to a polyglot (one who knows more than 2 languages), or a grammarian, but these two uses of the word are distinct (and one does not have to be a polyglot in order to be an academic linguist). The word linguistician is also used by some people to refer to one who studies linguistics, in order to avoid this ambiguity, although this word is rare, and generally disliked by those in the field. The following is a list of linguists.
