[edit] good stuff...

I think this is great too... hopefully the start of something really powerful and useful around here! cheers, Privatemusings (talk) 06:37, 30 April 2008 (UTC)

  • Ouch, what a nice essay. Seldom does anyone so succinctly capture everything in a short essay like this. These sentiments are getting more urgent with every day. Merzul (talk) 07:24, 15 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] First sentence - tribute?

That first sentence sounds familiar: "The purpose of Wikipedia is to create a high-quality, free-content encyclopedia in an atmosphere of camaraderie and mutual respect among contributors." Is that a tribute to someone who recently left? Carcharoth (talk) 17:02, 30 April 2008 (UTC)

It wasn't consciously intended as such, as I had written the essay before his departure was announced. I borrowed the wording here for much the same reason that I've used it in drafting arbitration rulings—I think it's one of the best-written and most succinct statements of our purpose that's been put forward.
I suppose it's fitting that it might be considered a tribute now, though; he certainly deserves all of those that we can give. Kirill (prof) 01:00, 1 May 2008 (UTC)
