I started editing Wikipedia to learn more about philosophy of religion; but I get sidetracked all too easily. I've decided that I'm now going to focus on editing topics in my own field as I'm getting involved in disputes I don't really care that much about. Hopefully, editing theoretical computer science articles will be sufficiently boring, so that I will spend less time on the Wiki and more time with my family. :)

Some of the excellent advice I have received

"Since you asked, let me offer you the following piece of advice. When you get into an edit war/dispute, always keep a cool head and comment about the content, not the contributor. I am not saying that you have done anything wrong, per se, just a general piece of advice. Even if someone is the worst troll, the best response is to ignore their inappropriate comments and continue to talk about the content." --User:Pastordavid

"I have the same gut reaction all the time when I know an editor's history. I also think that the assume good faith guideline can be taken to an extreme--there are cases when bad faith is more than apparent. However, the way I see it the guideline has a practical end which has nothing to do with actually assuming good faith but has everything to do with judging a contribution on its merits and not on the intentions of the contributor. The guideline is also a check for us to not overreact when editors who we know to be POV pushers make edits or create entries." --User:PelleSmith
