V. James Barnes (April 13, 1941, Tuckerman, Arkansas - September 14, 2002), a.k.a. Jim 'Bad News' Barnes was an American basketball player.

A 6'8" forward/center from the University of Texas at El Paso, Barnes was selected by the New York Knicks with the first pick of the 1964 NBA Draft and was named to the 1965 NBA All-Rookie Team. He played 7 seasons (1964-71) in the NBA with five teams, scoring 3,997 career points.
