The 1970 NBA Draft is known for having one of the most talented pools in draft history. Five players were inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame (Pete Maravich, Dave Cowens, Calvin Murphy, Bob Lanier, and Nate Archibald). A sixth future Hall of Famer, Dan Issel, would have been drafted except he had already signed with the ABA. Three members of the NBA's 50th Anniversary All-Time Team were drafted that year: Maravich, Cowens, and Archibald. Other notables that were drafted in 1970 went on to a successful coaching career (Rudy Tomjanovich, Jim McMillian and Cowens).
