The Italian Open golf championship, which is currently known for sponsorship reasons as the Methorios Capital Italian Open is the Italian national golf open for men. It was founded in 1925 and has been part of the European Tour's schedule since the tour's first season in 1972. It is currently played in May and the prize fund in 2007 was €1.6 million, which is one of the smaller purses among the European Tour events played in Europe itself. In 2008 the prize fund will be €1.7 million.
