Austrian Open
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Austrian Open is a men's professional golf tournament on the European Tour. Its sponsored name for 2008 is the Bank Austria GolfOpen presented by Telekom Austria. It was first played in 1990 as the Austrian Open and was a European Tour event for seven straight years up to 1996 under a variety of names. It then dropped down to the Challenge Tour schedule from 1997 to 2005, with a sharp reduction in prize money. In 2006 it returned to the main tour. The 2007 prize fund is €1.3 million, which is below average for a European Tour event. The tournament is currently played the week before the U.S. Open.
