Guildford (borough) is a local government district with borough status in Surrey, England. It is named after Guildford where its council is based.
The district was formed on April 1, 1974, under the Local Government Act 1972, as a merge of the municipal borough of Guildford, and Guildford Rural District.
The 3rd May 2007 borough elections produced 26 Conservative seats and 22 Liberal Democrat seats.[2]
The central 'Guildford Town' area of the borough comprises the town centre and immediately surrounding areas, including: Bellfields, Boxgrove, Onslow Village, Park Barn, Stoughton, Westborough, and the (former) villages of Burpham, Merrow and Jacobs Well.
