Great Bend No. 405, Saskatchewan, is a rural municipality of 458 rural residents (2006 census) in the northwestern part of Saskatchewan, Canada. Local Improvement District (L.I.D.) 20 E 3 was established on June 5, 1905. Local L.I.D 20 D 3 was formed on August 13, 1906. L.I.D. 21 D 3 was formed on November 14, 1906. on June 4, 1910 L.I.D. No. 405 combined all the L.I.D.s mentioned into one.The RM was incorporated December 12, 1910.[1] Other localities in the area include the village of Borden, Saskatchewan and the town of Radisson [2] [3] [4]

A rural municipality is an administrative district consisting of an elected reeve, councilors, administrator who provide essential services within their area.

In the summer of 1904, the elder Diefenbaker homesteaded on the southeast quarter of Section 8, Township 41, Range 8, west of the Third Meridian, located in the RM of Great Bend No. 405, with their two young sons. The future Prime Minister attended a nearby country school. The late Right Honourable John George Diefenbaker became Canada's 13th Prime Minister.
