[edit] LGBT is confirmed?

I don't want to cause any offense, but I don't know of any explicit or even strongly implied themes for Firelord present in Marvel Comics canon. Sure, he's strongly devoted to Air-Walker, but I personally don't recall any sexual tones in the devotion. It reads as philos, not Eros. I'll leave the categorization in, in the interests of keeping it cool, but honestly, can anybody offer a scan or a factual reference to this?

This is absolutely silly. You've got a comic book character being hijacked for political purposes. When Firelord tells Eros that he's not interested in women, the context pretty clearly shows that he is, if anything, UN-sexual now, as a result of being transformed by Galactus by the Power Cosmic. He simply doesn't have erotic feelings of any kind. Saying that this makes him gay is rediculous. DesScorp 16:32, 1 June 2006 (UTC)

It has been a while since the comic was published, so perhaps memories are hazy. Let's refer to the exact quotes from the comics. Firelord and Starfox/Eros are hunting down Nova, a female:
Starfox: Still, a woman like that would soften most men's animosities.
Firelord: The only woman who interests me is the one we seek for the crime of Genocide!
Starfox: Come now-Doesn't your fiery nature ever burn simply for pleasure?
Firelord: Not the way you mean it, Eros! Not since the day Galactus made me the Firelord! Not since the day I lost my friend Gabriel..!
Yep, he's queer. Perceive 21:10, 4 June 2006 (UTC)
No, I'm sorry, but that's not a confirmation. That's one potential reading of ambiguous text. Besides, doesn't Eros compell Firelord to make out with Nova later in that same issue (or at least the plotline)? Doesn't Eros's power require some sort of initial emotion to work with?
In hopes of warding off any potential personal attacks, I don't have a problem with the concept of Firelord and/or Air Walker being gay, but the problem here is that it's unconfirmed. Right now, their relationship is ambiguous, like Matt Damon and Ben Afleck. Unless you can produce confirmation this remains your own original research. You've got a valid hypothesis, but it's not proven to me so far. And what's worse is that from your reading of Firelord's words, you've decided that it's verification that his affections were reciprocated by Air Walker. For all we know, Firelord had an unreturned boycrush on him, and that's even if Firelord were homosexual and we haven't got that nailed down yet.
In the interests of not pissing anyone off, I'll continue with my position of leaving Firelord untouched as a member of the LBGT category, but I'm going to have to revert AirWalker if that's all we're going on. If you're interested in getting Marvel to confirm this, try sending some fanmail to Keith Giffen, writer of the current Silver Surfer series. Maybe if they're worried about some sort of moral controversy, ask them to try looking at it from a purely mercenary point of view: they could sell a few more copies by including a weeping Firelord mourning robo-Gabriel dying (again) and confessing his undying love and/or past relationship. I'm sure that would urge some speculators. Me personally? I'm going to wait this out on the sidelines with academic curiousity.

It may be that the writer of one particular comic meant to slip in some gay subtext, but it looks doubtful. I don't think we should tag Firelord as LGBT unless it's more explicitly stated. -- HotWings 00:40, 9 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] The Picture

The picture, which is high quality, frankly looks like the Human Torch. Anyone got any with his cool yellow vest?
