Eastwater Cavern (grid reference ST53885062) is a cave near Priddy in the limestone of the Mendip Hills, in Somerset, England. It is also know as Eastwater Swallet. It was first entered in 1902 by a team led by Herbert Balch. [1]
The cavern was the site of a fatal accident in 1960.[2]
It is 2.8km in length and reaches a depth of 160m.[3] Lower levels are accessed via pitches and climbs,[4] including Primrose Pot, which at 56m (185ft) is one of the deepest vertical pitches on the Mendips.[5]
