[edit] About Despotiko
The small island is located less than two kilometres (one mile) southwest from the shores of Antiparos. It is uninhabited, although there are significant indications that in ancient times it was considered one main hub of the Cyclades complex. Currently, excavations are taking place on the island and so far the findings are of great importance. Some of the artifacts found on the recent excavations are exhibited in Paroikia's museum, located on the nearby island of Paros, along with other important antiquities from the region.
In our days, the island can be reached only by boats starting from the island of Antiparos. Usually, the final destination for them, lies on the eastern part of the island, where a sandy beach is located.
Administratively, the island is part of the community of Antiparos, it is ranked second in the community.
[edit] Panorama
Other than Antiparos and Strongylo which are nearby, it offers views particularly during clear days of the northern portion of Syros, northwestern Ios, Kimolos and Sifnos, the islands to the south along with Syros to the north can rarely be seen including Folegandros and Sikinos.
