[edit] The name

I want to name my son Declan, but what is the short for this name?

Dec :) Except in Dublin, where 'Decko' in not uncommon. Dmccabe 02:51, 10 April 2006 (UTC)

I hear there is a rock associated with St. Declan on the beach in Co Waterford that is said to cure back pain. ANyone got a source on that one?Dmccabe 02:53, 10 April 2006 (UTC)

Well i'm a teenager and my names Declan, FYI nicknames= Dex/Ducky/Dec/D-Clan... its a great name and has gotten me alot of girl friends keep with it.

[edit] Namesakes

Is it just me or does there appear to be a trend developing for people called Declan to add their names to this article? I'm sure that Declan Mc Aughey, Declan Gilbert, Declan Kidd and Declan Sharkey are great guys, but do they meet the criteria for an article in Wikipedia? 81.156.156.181 20:37, 17 November 2006 (UTC)

The same question must surely be asked about the latest addition - Declan Garnett 81.157.70.139 16:52, 19 November 2006 (UTC)

And Tom Quinn? It all seemed pointless, so I deleted the whole lot of them. If any of these Declans are worthy of interest, then perhaps write an independent page for each of them and by all means pop them back in. Dmccabe 02:53, 20 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Declan Sharkey

I have removed Declan Sharkey (Irish male model) from the list of namesakes because he does not appear to meet Wikipedia's guidelines for notability. I can find no immediate reference to a male model of this name on either Google, Search.com or BT Yahoo. Interestingly, I notice that a Declan Sharkey listed as an Irish Citizen was previously deleted a few days ago. If I have got it wrong and he is noteworthy, then I apologise, and I'm sure someone will reinstate him. Cheers 81.153.141.47 13:21, 23 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Declan Barnes

The latest addition to the namesakes section of this page is Declan Barnes, who is purported to be a notorious gangster from California. While I don't doubt this to be the case, since I live a long way from California and therefore know very little of the place, I can't find any reference supporting this on Google or search.com. Consequently, I am going to take him out once I have finished writing this.

Interestingly, though, typing the name Declan Barnes into search.com does throw up an interesting link, which I feel should be brought to the attention of Wikipedians. It is a link to a Wikipedia User User:Tenaciousd. Click on this and you are told you have new messages. If you then choose to read these messages, you are taken to the following website: [1]. It seems a bit of a nonesense to me so I thought it should probably be investigated by someone.

Please accept my apologies if I am wrong.

-Declan Barnes, I'll have you know, is a legit Southern-Californian gangster/playboy. He's known for his collection of fine champagne and his legacy is ageless. In my opinion, Wikipedia should be honored to have Mr. Barnes among it's pages. I'll see you in court.

Unfortunately, you are probably alone in your opinion - a voice in the wilderness as it were. Declan Barnes is not notable enough for a mention on this site. Now please stop vandalising this page. Thanks Paul20070 18:53, 6 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Declan Cole

I have removed the above person from this article because I can find no evidene that he actually exists. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 81.152.144.164 (talk) 12:26, 31 December 2006 (UTC).

[edit] Declan Baird-Watson

This guy exists, but the search I just performed only brought up sites on which he was listed. He doesn't seem to have anything in his own right. Can anyone supply more information on him? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 217.43.192.157 (talk) 19:14, 8 March 2007 (UTC).

[edit] Declan McAughey

Thanks for saying i am a great guy , to be honest you're telling the truth

[edit] Patron Saint of Ireland

Someone added "There was much controversy involving which Saint was to become the Patron Saint of Ireland. Since St. Patrick was not of Irish heritage many of the Irish people believed that St. Declan should instead become the countries Patron Saint." I have no idea whether or not this is true, but have requested a reference. It certainly doesn't appear to be mentioned in the Life of St. Declan. Feel free to remove the information if it is incorrect. Thanks Paul20070 (talk) 19:05, 8 March 2008 (UTC)
