Dź (digraph)

or is a digraph of the Latin alphabet, used in Polish.

represents a voiced alveolo-palatal affricate, IPA[d͡ʑ]. It is sometimes devoiced to IPA[t͡ɕ], particularly at the end of a word. Dź is never written before a vowel, instead dzi is used, e.g. dziecko ("child", pronounced IPA[d͡ʑɛtskɔ]).

Dź should not be confused with which is a voiced retroflex affricate, IPA[d͡ʐ].
