Charles Graham Adam (born December 10, 1985 in Dundee) is a Scottish footballer plays for Scottish Premier League side Rangers. He is the son of ex-professional player Charles Adam, a footballer in the 1980s. Charlie's brother, Grant, plays for Rangers under-19s team.

[edit] Early career

Adam made his first appearance for Rangers on April 14, 2004 against Livingston[1] and played sporadically but didn't become a first team regular until the management of Frenchman Paul Le Guen. He made an appearance at the start of the 2004-05 season but he then joined Ross County on loan for the rest of that season.

Whilst in Dingwall he made fifteen appearances, scoring twice, against Raith Rovers and St Mirren. He also played in the Challenge Cup final against Falkirk which County lost 2-1.

The 2005-06 season again started with Adam making his one and only first-team appearance for Rangers against Livingston. He then joined Scottish First Division side St. Mirren on loan for the rest of the season. During his spell in Paisley he again appeared in the Challenge Cup final. However this time he was on the winning side as St Mirren defeated Hamilton by 2-1.[2] Adam was also part of the team that won the First Division title in May 2006. In total he made thirty-seven appearances and scored nine goals for the Buddies.

After impressing then manager, Le Guen, with his performances during Rangers pre-season trip to South Africa, including a hat-trick against a Jomo Select side [3], Adam started the 2006-07 Scottish football season with the club. Indeed he started in their first SPL match with Motherwell. He continued to be a regular for Rangers as the season progressed and scored his first goal for the club in the 3-2 UEFA Cup win over Livorno Calcio on October 19, 2006. This was the one of fourteen goals Adam would score that season, including goals against Israeli sides Hapoel Tel Aviv and Maccabi Haifa and during an end of season Old Firm match from a free kick.[4]

On April 16, 2007, at the end of his first season in the Rangers first team, Adam was voted Rangers' Young Player of the Year at an award ceremony as voted for by the club's fans.[5]

On the 28 June 2007 it was announced that Adam had signed a new five year contract with Rangers which will expire in the summer of 2012.[6] Adam scored his first goal in the UEFA Champions League on 19 September against VfB Stuttgart and his second in the reverse fixture a month two months later.

Adam was called up by manager Alex McLeish to the Scotland squad for the first time on May 11 for a friendly against Austria and a Euro 2008 qualifying match against the Faroe Islands,[7] making his debut in Vienna on May 30[8] and his competitive debut in Torshavn on June 6.
