CFM is an Independent Local Radio station broadcasting to Northern & Central Cumbria and the southern tip of Scotland, with transmitters in Carlisle, Penrith and West Cumbria. Its output is pa variety of popular hits from all genres of music from the 70s to present day. It is owned by Bauer Radio and is part of their Big City Network of stations. The station's slogan is The Best Mix of Music.

The station was launched by owners, Border Television at 8am on 14 April 1993 when Founder, Managing Director and breakfast show host John Myers played "The Best" by Tina Turner as its first song. Past well-known presenters on the station include Simon Grundy, Dave Collins, Mike Charlton and Ken White

Originally CFM only broadcast from their Caldbeck mast, near to Wigton and the B5299, to Carlisle on 96.4 and Penrith, on the top of Beacon Hill, on 102.5 FM until September 1995, when they also started transmitting to west Cumbria from their transmitter at Broughton Moor, between Maryport and Cockermouth, on 102.2 (Workington) and 103.4 FM (Whitehaven), between St Bees and Egremont.

In 2005 media giant Emap bought the station and branded it accordingly to its Big City Network of staions. In 2008 Emap was bought by Bauer, who remain as the current owners

CFM are currently commercial market leader in Cumbria and southern Scotland (Radio Authority Joint Audience Research data RAJAR Jan 2006). See OFCOM website for full ratings list.

The station broadcasts from previous owners, Border Television's location, Broadcast Centre. It has been broadcast here since launch in 1993.

CFM broadcasts local and national news every hour with an extended fifteen minute news bulletin from 13.00 & 17.00. Head of News is Bill McDonald. There are three broadcast journalists in total at CFM.
