Box Television

Box Television (formerly Video Jukebox Network International Limited) is the content subsidiary of Channel 4 and Bauer. It is a British television company which is owned by Bauer Group (75%) and Channel 4 (25%) and acts as its music television programme production arm.

The Box

The Box is well-known for its First Play feature, where many videos often make their UK or world première. This new music is often shown through the 'Box Fresh' show on the channel.

The Hits showcases a range of pop centering on chart hits and current favourites. Programming is often themed to coincide with events such as St. Patrick's Day and Christmas. It is based on format of 'The Hits' brand from Bauer which also exists in The Hits Radio. Originally, the vast majority of music videos were selected by viewers by means of calling a premium rate telephone number, however this policy seems to have been recently abandoned with the channel playing an automated selection of videos and countdown shows presented by celebrities and singers past and present. The channel is available free-to-air on the British Digital terrestrial television service Freeview on channel 18. It is the only pure music video channel operating on the Freeview platform (TMF - a channel owned by chief competitor MTV - and E4 broadcast music videos for only a portion of their schedule). The channel will soon be rebranded as, 4 Music.

Kiss TV

Kiss TV is a commercial music television channel from Box Television available on the Sky Digital and Virgin Media digital TV platforms. The playlist is predominantly mainstream Urban Pop, Dance and R&B, although since its relaunch in Summer 2006, (and the launch of a sister channel Q TV) it has begun to focus more on dance music once again. It is based on format of the Kiss brand from Bauer which also exists in Kiss Radio.

Magic TV plays mainly easy listening music videos. It is based on format of the Magic brand from Bauer which exists in Magic Radio and Magic branded CDs.

Smash Hits TV mainly broadcasts general mainstream pop music on a "jukebox" system, where viewers call a premium rate telephone number to select a music video to play. The channel also shows other programmes, such as "Celebrity Selector", where celebrities pick what music videos are their favourites. It is based on format of the Smash Hits! brand from Bauer which exists in Smash Hits Radio and which once ran as a magazines.

Q TV specialises in indie, rock and alternative. In common with other Box Television channels, Q was originally a jukebox channel, where music video selections made were by the viewers using premium rate phone lines; however this element was dropped in 2004. It is based on format of the Q brand from Bauer which exists in Q Magazine and Q Radio.

Kerrang! TV specialises in Rock Music. As of 2005, all of its programme content is music videos, the majority of which is open scheduled, for text requests from their playlist. It is based on format of Kerrang! brand from Bauer which also exists in Kerrang Radio and Kerrang! magazine.
