Cartoon Network Studios is an American animated cartoon production company. A subsidiary of the Turner Broadcasting System arm of the Time Warner media conglomerate, Cartoon Network Studios focuses on producing and developing animated programs for and related to the Cartoon Network. Some programming produced by Cartoon Network Studios has also been broadcast, if only for a short time, on Kids' WB, Cartoon Network's sister network.
The studio began in 1994 as a subsidiary of Hanna-Barbera Cartoons which was dedicated to producing original programming for the Cartoon Network, including latter-day Hanna-Barbera creations such as Dexter's Laboratory and The Powerpuff Girls. After H-B co-founder William Hanna died in 2001, the Hanna-Barbera name was retired as a production entity and the H-B studio was folded into Warner Bros. Animation, and Cartoon Network Studios made a separate entity from Hanna-Barbera. The studio has continued to thrive with new productions such as The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy and Samurai Jack.
