The Cambodia national football team is the national team of Cambodia and is controlled by the Cambodian Football Federation. It was known as the Khmer Republic national football team from 1970 to 1975. It finished fourth in the 1972 Asian Cup, but is currently one of the weakest teams in the world and did not even attempt qualifying for the 2006 World Cup. The team was founded in 1933 and joined FIFA's ranks in 1953.

[edit] Recent developments

In October 2007, Cambodia was eliminated from the 2010 World Cup qualifiers, at the first hurdle, losing 1-0 to Turkmenistan at home in Phnom Penh and 4-1 away in Ashgabat.

On 21 December 2007 it was announced that Yoo Kee-Heung, a South Korean coach, had been hired as the Cambodia national team coach. This appointment was reported to be part of a sponsorship deal with a Korean technology company worth $205 000 a year, half of which will be Yoo's salary.[2]
