[edit] RAF Polebrook

Just wanted to say that RAF Polebrook looks pretty professional. I'm not familiar with the material but it looks rather nice. Good work! Isopropyl 11:25, 13 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Air Force work

Great stuff with all the work you've done on cold war USAF history. When you're uploading images in the future, might I suggest that you use this license: {{PD-USGov-Military-Air Force}} instead of the US Government standard license, as its more accurate. You don't need to select anything in the pull-down list of licenses, just paste that into the image discription when you're on the uploading screen. all the best, Cornell Rockey 20:06, 13 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Eielson Air Force Base

Fantastic work with this page! I would love to submit this article for peer review, but there are some things that need to be done first. We need to cite all possible references and link to them within the article. We could also expand the article a bit, maybe listing more about the operations of other groups and squadrons on the base. Are you currently stationed here? Anyway, as a suggestion, there is a license template that would be more appropriate for military badges: {{PD-USGov-Military-Badge}} Kajmal 00:06, 30 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Cam Ranh Airport

I (actually my stupid sockpuppet did it because I forgot to change browsers) moved the Cam Ranh Airport back to it's own article as it is an operational airport and should really have it's own article. CambridgeBayWeather (Talk) 12:32, 7 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Alternate Udon Thani / Udorn Thani / Udorn Royal Thai Air Force Base spellings

Hi

I think Udon Thani International Airport is "correct" for Wikipedia, not Udorn Thani International Airport - but if not, you'll need to rename Udon Thani, Udon Thani Province and Diocese of Udon Thani too...

Hi,

I agree in part and also disagree in part to the above statement.

We have two issues here. As happens in many areas of the world in which USAF bases are co-located at a foreign civilian airfield, there are two names. As an example, at Frankfurt International Airport (Germany), Rhein Main Air Base was the name of the US Air Base located at that airport until is was deactivated in the 1990's.

The US Air Base in Udon Province, Thailand during the Vietnam War was named Udorn Air Base. I agree that the civilian name for the airfield is Udon as referenced above. I suggest that anyone that has any questions about the name of the Vietnam era Udorn Air Base should look at these official USAF documents.

[edit] RAF bases in England

I have noticed that you have main a large contribution to RAF bases in England. I am currently writing an article on RAF Davidstow Moor. Do you have any information or an aerial photograph of the base? --Benjaminevans82 22:05, 14 October 2006 (UTC)

Don't forget the common rule, "I before E, except after C"

You're work on the article List of units using the A-7 Corsair II is strongly appreciated (you really konw your stuff), but don't forget to look out for common typos. I had to change "recieved" to "received" at least 30 times.

Thanks for your contributions!--Renegade Replicant 00:07, 27 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Hahn Air Base

Hi Bwmoll3, I like the work you did in splitting up Hahn Air Base and Frankfurt-Hahn airport. That's so much better now. Thanks for your work. Cheers, MikeZ 11:15, 8 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Coordinates

Just wanted to let you know that I removed the coordinates from, London Stansted Airport, Earls Colne Airfield and Toul-Rosières Air Base as they are already in the infobox. Also they are not required in that format to be listed in Google Earth. If you look at Cambridge Bay Airport, which has never had the coor title template you can see the article is in Google Earth. Cheers. CambridgeBayWeather (Talk) 06:49, 19 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] USAFE Bases

Thanks for the info on RAF Spanhoe... as I'm looking at these bases, not sure I should even include them on the infobox. Regardless... I'm PCSing from England in August to Germany... hopefully I can help more on the German bases when I get there. Jazznutuva 12:45, 23 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Placement of GBthumb template

You may have noticed that I have moved some of the GBthumb templates that you have placed on RAF station pages. The maps look much better at the top of the page rather than in the "See also" section. Where there is a photo at the top of the page I would recommend placing the map immediately underneath it. --Cheesy Mike 07:59, 30 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] RE: USAF Bases in the UK

Thanks for the information... I've added all I thought needed to be added. Let me know if you see any more you deem worthy. I might go back and update the template similar how I did my University's one... see {{University of Virginia}} for an idea how it will look. I also reworded the topics to better reflect some are still active bases... just without USAF components any longer. Jazznutuva 11:02, 26 July 2007 (UTC)

I don't know how to edit this template, and I saw that you created it. You may wish to add the SAC bases from the 1940s and 1950s that I've listed on Strategic Air Command in the United Kingdom Regards ... Bwmoll3 03:13, 25 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Strategic Air Command in the United Kingdom

Hi Bwmoll3. You are off to such a great start on the article Strategic Air Command in the United Kingdom that it may qualify to appear on Wikipedia's Main Page under the Did you know... section. The Main Page gets about 4,000,000 hits per day and appearing on the Main Page may help bring publicity and assistance to the article. However, there is a five day from article creation window for Did you know... nominations. Before five days pass from the date the article was created and if you haven't already done so, please consider nominating the article to appear on the Main Page by posting a nomination at Did you know suggestions. If you do nominate the article for DYK, please cross out the article name on the "Good" articles proposed by bot list. Also, don't forget to keep checking back at Did you know suggestions for comments regarding your nomination. Again, great job on the article. -- Jreferee (Talk) 14:06, 27 July 2007 (UTC)

Speaking of which,

Updated DYK query On July 30, 2007, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Strategic Air Command in the United Kingdom, which you created or substantially expanded. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page.

The current version of OSM's mapping is at http://www.openstreetmap.org
The top level (as far as I can determine) for the current continental US appears to be :

Thank you for uploading images/media to Wikipedia! There is, however, another Wikimedia Foundation project called Wikimedia Commons, a central media repository for all free media. In the future, please consider creating an account and uploading your media there instead. That way, all of the other language Wikipedias can use them too, as well as our many sister projects. This will also allow our visitors to search for, view and use our media in one central location. If you wish to move previous uploads to Commons, see Wikipedia:Moving images to the Commons (you may view images you have previously uploaded by going to your user contributions on the left and choosing the 'image' namespace from the drop down box). Please note that non-free content, such as images claimed as fair use, cannot be uploaded to the Wikimedia Commons. Help us spread the word about Commons by informing other users, and please continue uploading!

Wikiwings 2.0

Wikiwings are the official award of WikiProject Aircraft. Styled after military flight wings, they are awarded to anyone who makes extensive, high-quality, or generally valued contributions to the area of aviation on wikipedia. They can be awarded by anyone, to anyone, in a barnstar-like fashion.

The wikiwings award is modelled after Rlandmann's wikiwings award, and were officially adopted by WikiProject Aircraft on October 29, 2005.

[edit] USAF AEF OPSEC Notice

"The task of developing a comprehensive listing of AEW units present in Southwest Asia and other combat areas is particularly difficult as the events of 11 September 2001 and the Global War on Terrorism has made such an effort significantly difficult. The USAF seeks to improve operational security (OPSEC) and to deceive potential enemies as to the extent of American operations, therefore a listing of which units deploying where and when is unavailable."

Your notice on the AEF wing pages is commendable, but I have to ask why it is there - I can understand the logic from a USAF perspective... but Wikipedia is not run by the USAF, nor the US Government. Should we use the same logic on military units and installations from other countries (i.e. Russia and Iran)? Some "other" (non-US Gov) resources (from UK and Netherlands) have compiled a list of "probable" AEW locations - why isn't that fair game to place on Wikipedia? TDRSS (talk) 18:51, 14 March 2008 (UTC)

This is an ethical battle that I have thought about for the last week - what you've done is great and should be kept as such. I can't see endangering fellow airmen for "accuracy points" on Wikipedia. If someone else does it, I can't do much about it, right? Keep up the good work! TDRSS (talk) 12:26, 24 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Lowry Air Force Base

BW, I really like your new Former SAC Bases Navbox, excellant idea!!!! This would be an excellant pattern for other former Commands, TAC, ATC, etc. Lowry was also former base of Air Training Command when it was Lowry Technical Training Center. Probably number of current and former bases belonged to multiple Commands over the years. This could really BLOOOM! But, one project at a time, and not to where oneselve out. Side note, I got an off-line article project of re-writing the history of Lowry. On hold at the moment, got other issues in the mill. Cheers, Lance...LanceBarber (talk) 05:19, 23 March 2008 (UTC)

I agree on the creation of the NAVBOX, but would ask that it follows the template examples of the others (i.e. NAFs, Air Divisions, Wings, Bases and perhaps aircraft); the bases themselves can be created into a list (with chronology when belonging to SAC) that is a bit easier to read. Just a thought...TDRSS (talk) 12:24, 24 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Image:Misawa ab-dotmap.jpg

Hi Bwmoll3, and thank you for uploading Image:Misawa ab-dotmap.jpg. Would it be feasible to redraw Image:Misawa ab-dotmap.jpg with the mark indicating the location of Misawa Air Base farther north? The mark on the map is considerably south of the actual location. The mark is at or perhaps south of the boundary between Aomori Prefecture and Iwate Prefecture. Please see en:Misawa, Aomori for the location of the city. The airport is in the city. You'll see that it is farther north than Image:Misawa ab-dotmap.jpg indicates.

[edit] Vandalism accusations

Please stop referring to the edits being made to articles you have worked on by TenPoundHammer (talk · contribs) as vandalism. The work he is doing is not vandalism, it is more along the lines of a content dispute between the two of you. His points regarding redirecting lesser-known singles to the albums they appear on has been done many times on other articles previously. As our guidelines (which have been developed by the community into a long-standing consensus) state, songs that are likely to be permanent stubs are better redirected to the albums. In this case, I would suggest that Hammer's suggestion regarding merging information to the album articles would be an appropriate route to go. (This seems to have been the general view of the AFD on Patty Loveless articles that took place in February, as well.) If you disagree, might I suggest going to a third opinion or placing a request for comment on the issue? Either way, please do ease up on the vandalism accusations against an editor who is working in good faith. Thanks. Tony Fox (arf!) 18:24, 5 April 2008 (UTC)

TenPoundHammer works extensively in the area of article deletion, and anyone who does that sort of work is a magnet for disgruntled editors who are angry that their pet article has been deleted - usually quite correctly under our guidelines. The fact here is that under the guidelines of WP:MUSIC the redirection of these articles is, in fact, appropriate and your approach to the discussion, as evidenced here, here and elsewhere, has leaned towards breaching WP:CIVIL as well as causing concerns regarding ownership of the article in question. Age and profession is irrelevant; we are all editors here, and are supposed to edit collaboratively. I strongly suggest that you discuss rationally his offer to merge usable content to the album articles in question for marginal singles, as it appears to me to be a reasonable offer; if you feel that it is not, please file a request for comment on the issue (probably directing them to Talk:Send a Message to My Heart)and bring in further opinions before continuing forward. Thanks. Tony Fox (arf!) 23:06, 5 April 2008 (UTC)
I've started a content RFC as noted above. Tony Fox (arf!) 03:17, 6 April 2008 (UTC)

This discussion is a good one! Songs absolutely should be standalone researchable articles. Songs are often recorded by multiple artists, are often on multiple albums, and should NOT be redirected to one artist's album. To redirect a song article to one artist’s album basically deletes all the vitals on the song (writers, other recordings, awards, and related links). Why should a hit song (certainly any charted song) be permanently tied within to one artist, when the artist's article can clearly link to the song, broadening the benefits of research? Also, the focus on what is a "notable" song and what is not "notable" should not be for one Wikipedian to decide IF the song was a chart hit in any of the major trade magazines. One particular Wikipedian (one known for massive amounts of "deletion issues") seems to have his own subjective scale of measuring what is notable, what is a hit, what articles deserve to be redirected, etc. I say let the articles (songs and artists) always remain valuable independent sources and benefit from the existence of each...LINK THEM. Songs in many cases are bigger than the artist. Most song redirects that I have seen are deserving of protest.Wikibones (talk) 22:12, 9 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Redding Municipal Airport

Please do not add copyrighted material to Wikipedia without permission from the copyright holder, as you did to Redding Municipal Airport. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material; such additions will be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing. A verbatim copy of the added text was found at http://www.militarymuseum.org/ReddingAAF.html

Please don't take this personally. But everyone at Wikipedia needs to take copyright issues very seriously. I can tell you're trying to help add useful content to Wikipedia. But we can't just copy someone else's text verbatim without permission. And even if we had permission we'd want to credit them for such a gracious contribution. So it can be done - but needs to be done differently than this one was. A way to do what you want without running into this problem would be to write new text to summarize the history of the Redding Municipal Airport and cite millitarymuseum.org as the source. I hope this advice is helpful. Ikluft (talk) 06:47, 19 April 2008 (UTC)
