[edit] History
The business began in July 2000 in Brisbane, Australia with the ingenious work of three directors, namely Dan McHugh, Kris Vogt and Alan Hadley.
The three directors identified a large gap in the market and identified many factors likely to threaten the brand management structure including:
- Brand inconsistency - Poor control of branded assets; inability to track branded assets resulting in multiple brands for the same company. - Asset liability Risk - Failure to provide maintenance solutions following brand roll out.
To develop a solution, every client’s business requirement was broken down into individual business units and was then used to build an on line system with the flexibility to turn projects from any location. Signmanager developed sophisticated software that enable fast, transparent and cost-effective sign maintenance and brand modification. The web based management system combined with a large geographical network of contractors means Signmanager can implement brand changes and maintenance quickly and below budget.
Since then, the company has substantially grown, having started with an initial figure of three directors to currently employing thirty brand management specialists.
Our unique management system has also proven to be indispensable to customers; Signmanager currently manage in excess of $100 million worth of corporate branded assets (for leading companies such as the Fosters Group, Stihl, McDonalds, Pizza Hut, Flight Centre) at over 30,000 outlets.
[edit] Importance of re-branding
The effects of global marketing and increased competition have added pressure to the brand management structure. The marketplace is cluttered with hundreds of brands often competing with each other to seize the attention of consumers.
Increased competition: as competition intensifies across all business categories, we see an increasing number of companies reviving their brands to stand out from the competition and capture a larger share of the market. Branding has been seen as a way of building a strong reputation
Mergers, Acquisitions and Takeovers: in a global economy subject to changing market dynamics the role of brands has never been greater. The global marketplace has attracted the activity of mergers and acquisitions. Following such an activity companies are likely to re-bran to reflect the new brand name, and this will have to be modified on all branded assets (internal, external signage, point of sale material) that carry the brand in the retail environment. Examples of major M&A include Sony-Ericsson, Daimler-Chrysler.
Return on Investment: Companies often revive their brands to keep it with target customer needs and expectations and combat competitive threats (Clifton and Simmons, 2003).
A combination of the above-mentioned factors has caused a reduction in the typical brand lifecycle; the frequency of corporations implementing re-branding programs has been reduced from fifteen years to between five to seven years. Failing to re-brand may have serious consequences for the corporation including brand inconsistency, lack of control and risk of asset failure.
