Welcome!
Hello, Aristophanes68, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:
I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. If anyone is interested in working with Multi-Ethnic U.S. Literature articles, leave me a note here and we'll see if we can get a group together. I've found that Multi-ethnic lit is woefully underrepresented on this site, and it would be great if we could give it the coverage it deserves. If you want to see what needs to be done, run a search for your favorite author, book, etc. and see what kind of coverage it's getting. You might also search for the list of authors in your area, e.g. List of Asian American writers, List of Cuban American writers, etc. and see who's not listed and who doesn't have a page set up. You'll see how sporadic the coverage is!
What to do: you'll probably want to sign up for a free account so that you can use a nickname instead of #s to sign your posts--and you'll need an account to create articles (but anyone can edit). To sign a post, simply add ~~~~ at the end. Then, for a brief cheat-sheet on editing pages, go to Wikipedia:How_to_edit_a_page. For creating pages, read the information at Wikipedia:Your_first_article. If you're creating a page about an author, consider using the Bio Template as a guide.
Helpful hint: You may want to start by editing existing articles as a way of learning the ropes; use the "edit preview" button to make sure your changes look the way you want them to. And when you want to start an article, the two most important things to include (to make sure your page doesn't get nominated for deletion) are 1) a comment stating the subject's notability and 2) references and/or links to reliable outside sources (not necessarily online, but you can find a lot using Google Scholar and Google Books). You don't need a full article to start a page--you can always come back later to add more. A short description of the subject will suffice, as long as you establish the subject's notability and use reliable sources. Aristophanes68 (talk) 13:48, 27 March 2008 (UTC)

A tag has been placed on Before Columbus Foundation requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for biographies.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Hi, Aristophanes68, welcome to WikiProject LGBT Studies!
We are a growing community of Wikipedia editors dedicated to identifying, categorizing, and improving articles of interest to the LGBT community. Some points that may be helpful:
- Our main aim is to help improve LGBT-related articles, so if someone asks for help with an article, please try your hardest to help them if you are able.
- Most important discussions take place on the project's main discussion page; it is highly recommended that you watchlist it.
- The project has several ongoing and developing activities, such as article quality assessment, peer review and a project-wide article collaboration, all of which you are welcome to take part in. We also have a unique program to improve our lower quality articles, Jumpaclass, so please consider signing up there.
- If you have another language besides English, please consider adding yourself to our translation section, to help us improve our foreign LGBT topics.
- If you're planning to stay, have a square in our quilt! You can put anything you want in it.
If you have any questions, feel free to ask on the talk page, and we will be happy to help you.
And once again - Welcome!

The LGBT studies WikiProject Newsletter!
Issue XIV - February 29, 2008
|
- Article Milestones
-
We have one new Featured Article this month - Emily Dickinson was recently promoted thanks to the hard work of Yllosubmarine! We also have 4 new GA-class articles: Ben Daniels, J. Michael Bailey, Rainer Werner Fassbinder, and Walt Whitman were promoted this month, but Dante's Cove was demoted.
- Wikinews
Things are happening over at Wikipedia sister project Wikinews. First, Nicholas Turnbull became the first openly-Trans reporter to gain (resounding) accreditation by the Wikinews community. Second, project member David Shankbone is going to Rio de Janeiro at the invitation of the Rio Convention & Visitor's Bureau. Wikinews:Portal:LGBT
- Lambda Book Report
Project member Moni3 has been working on the article for Barbara Gittings and noted that the Lambda Literary Foundation used the lead paragraph from Wikipedia, skillfully and lovingly written by Moni3, verbatim in the Lambda Literary Pioneers calendar. Moni3 contacted the Lambda Literary Foundation to let them know, and to ask if we could get a little write-up in the next Lambda Book Report. There is a preliminary text you can find here. Feel free to add to it. It should be no longer than 1,000 words, and it needs to be submitted by March 15.
- New members
Let's give a big LGBT welcome to all our new members: Dylankidwell (talk · contribs), Jay*Jay (talk · contribs), Ftmichael (talk · contribs), AgnosticPreachersKid (talk · contribs), Phyesalis (talk · contribs) , Tullerk (talk · contribs), Ravenwhitehorse (talk · contribs), TigressofIndia (talk · contribs), Yohan euan o4 (talk · contribs), Masculinity (talk · contribs), Renegade Replicant (talk · contribs), and Youngwebprogrammer (talk · contribs)!
- User categories
Place yourself in a user category so you can collaborate with other LGBT/Allied Wikipedians!
- St. Patrick's Day
In honor of Saint Patrick's Day, why don't you consider improving one of these articles: Homosexuality and Roman Catholicism, LGBT rights in the Republic of Ireland, Campaign for Homosexual Law Reform, Recognition of gay unions in Ireland, List of gay and lesbian resource centres in Ireland, or any of the articles in our to-do list?
- Women's History Month
March is Women's History Month in the United States. Help us celebrate by improving History of lesbianism or Lesbian American history! You could also find references for women in our giant list of LGB people to be sorted.

From what I understand, Wikiproject Literature does not cover writers, so I've removed the WP template from Morrison's talk page. The Biography Wikiproject has a subcategory for people who are affiliated with Arts and Entertainment, which includes writers. María (habla conmigo) 19:37, 6 March 2008 (UTC)
- I am not affiliated with WP:LIT, so you should ask one of the members there if you have comments or suggestions. It is made very clear in the mission statement, however, that they do not currently include writers in their scope, so I would suggest that you cease adding the project's template to writer talk pages until a consensus saying otherwise has been formed. I've added the Morrison article to the Arts & Entertainment workgroup for now. FYI, you added the WP:LIT template to the article, not the talk page, which is incorrect, so I've reverted it. An election has been proposed and has been set up for this project. Description of the roles etc., can be found at Wikipedia:WikiProject Novels/Coordinators. Voting will start on the 1st April and close at the end of April. The intention is for the appointments to last from May - November 2008. For other details check out the pages or ask. [edit] Infoboxes
I like the infoboxes that you have created (if you created them), I saw the ones that you posted on some of the Puerto Rican writers articles which I created and man they look real nice. I noticed that in most you posted the info which goes inside the box, however in some you didn't. I have an idea. From now on when you post an infobox, if the article has an image, at least post that in the infobox and if the article is one that I created, I will post the rest with due time. Tony the Marine (talk) 02:09, 22 March 2008 (UTC)
- I must remind you, unlike Afro-Americans, Italian-Americans and so on "Puerto Rican' is not an ethnicity, it is a nationality. Take care. Tony the Marine (talk) 02:12, 22 March 2008 (UTC)

- Nominations for open positions will be open through 23:59 (UTC) on April 30 and project members should vote for any candidates they support by April 11 2008.

Welcome to the Sixth issue of the WikiProject Christianity newsletter! Use this newsletter as a mechanism to inform yourselves about progress at the project and please be inspired to take more active roles in what we do.
Luckily, you all won't have to see my comments very often, as very little I have to say is really that important. But I would like to take the opportunity to say that I hope everyone finds the new General Forum page useful for discussing ideas relevant to Christianity in general, and feels free to make any additional comments regarding general Christianity there. Also, if any of you feel that you want to place a comment here in the future, please let us know what you want included. We would encourage all members to get more involved and if you are wondering what with, please ask.
