Alessandro Tuia (born June 8, 1990 in Civita Castellana, Province of Viterbo, Italy) is a football player who currently plays in the Italian Serie A with S.S. Lazio as a central defender.
Hailed as the next Alessandro Nesta,[citation needed] Tuia is a product of the Lazio youth system and is one of the most highly rated young players in the world.[citation needed] Tuia has represented Italy at under-17 level.
Tuia was given a squad number and joined the first team squad before the 2007-08 season, when Lazio were suffering an injury crisis, particularly in defence.
Similar to when Alessandro Nesta and Marco Materazzi were young, Alessandro Tuia has had Europe chasing him. Reportedly, Real Madrid had offered 10 million euros for his services, but were turned down.
It has been rumoured that in the 2008/09 season that he will be loaned out to either Cagliari Calcio or Napoli Calcio. Growing up as a kid Alessandro had it quite rough living in the poor district of Castellana. There the small town was run by Romanian drug lords it even resulted in a friend of Tuia's being kidnapped by the Romanians. Despite his hard childhood he says he will never forget his roots and has "Il Americano" tatooed to his chest which was the name of his gang.
