ABQ is the Australian Broadcasting Corporation's television station in Brisbane, Queensland. It began broadcasting on November 2, 1959 and was based for many years at studios in the inner-western suburb of Toowong, with a transmitter at Mount Coot-tha. In late 2006, however, the Toowong studios were abandoned after several female staff members developed breast cancer. An independent report found that the rate of breast cancer incidents at the site were "...up to 11 times higher than what would normally be expected."[2]
Staff currently work from several sites around Brisbane, with ABC Radio now based in nearby Lissner Street, Toowong, ABC News staff working from Network Ten's Mount Coot-tha studios, ABC Innovation and Online staff working at QUT Kelvin Grove, and other staff based in locations including Coronation Drive and West End. The station is received throughout the state through a number of relay transmitters, and satellite transmission on the Optus Aurora free-to-view platform. eptions.
ABC News Queensland is presented by Andrew Lofthouse (news) and Jenny Woodward (weather), with national finance presented by Alan Kohler and sport with Peter Wilkins. David Curnow presents weekend news, sport and weather. Stateline, a locally produced current affairs program, is presented by John Taylor.
