Aberdeen F.C. season 2008-09

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Aberdeen will compete in the Scottish Premier League, Scottish Cup and Scottish League Cup during the 2008–09 season.

Following the Scottish Cup semi-final defeat to Queen of the South, it became obvious that a lot of changes would be made. Manager Jimmy Calderwood, said on 14 April 2007 the defeat "may impact on his transfer plans."[1]

Richie Byrne, Barry Nicholson, Steve Lovell, Derek Soutar, Dave Bus, Jonathan Smith, Greg Kelly and possibly Alan Maybury will all be moving to new clubs. Jackie McNamara and Dan Smith had already left the club before the season finished and English youngsters Sone Aluko and Josh Walker returned back down south to their clubs, although their future at those clubs is uncertain and one or both of them may return.

The club have been linked with several players, so far Sammy Stewart, Gary McDonald and Bertrand Bossu have all been given two year contracts. More are expected to follow before the transfer window eventually closes on 31 August 2008.
