[edit] Interview

I'd be happy to participate in an interview. Skype poses something of a problem for me because I live in a rural area and have a broadband wireless internet connection that works poorly with any kind of VOIP because of jitter on the uplink. I'll see what arrangements I can make.

The Uninvited Co., Inc. 13:11, 11 January 2008 (UTC)

I would also be very pleased to talk to you. I've been listening to the podcast for a while now, and am very keen on what the program is doing for the community. Tim Vickers (talk) 17:51, 12 January 2008 (UTC)
You seem to be 17h ahead of me (US central time zone), so if we did the interview on Sunday morning your time it would be Saturday afternoon my time. How would 5-6 pm Saturday (my time) suit you? I think that would be about 10-11 am your time. Tim Vickers (talk) 20:08, 14 January 2008 (UTC)
I added you on Skype and sent you a message to confirm. Tim Vickers (talk) 03:46, 17 January 2008 (UTC)
I enjoyed that tremendously, thank you again. Tim Vickers (talk) 05:42, 18 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Meetup

Would love to come but I'm about a 3-day drive away :P I was at the last one because I was already on holiday there. Orderinchaos 09:41, 20 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Rocks Push

Nice to meet you. Don't forgot to read about the Rocks Push. I would be interested to read any material from The Dictionary on this subject. Cheers. Wm (talk) 11:17, 28 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Signpost Tim Vickers interview

Yeah, I don't see a problem with something like that, given that you interviewed him about the exact same thing. Ral315 (talk) 14:22, 29 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Now let's see...what have we here....

OK then.......[1]..hmm..do any grab one as a potential GA...heck none look easycheers, Casliber (talk · contribs) 06:33, 1 February 2008 (UTC)

  • Quick recipe for GA - a short but authoritative book on your bookshelf of something which is well-defined and can, at about 20kb minimum and 30kb maximum, be reasonalby comprehensive....maybe Nippers but the sourcing will be an issue..06:33, 1 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Featured sounds

I noticed that you have participated in Wikipedia:Featured sound candidates in the past. There are now two candidates and the project appears to be abandoned. If you could look at the candidates and vote it would be appreciated. Zginder (talk) (Contrib) 00:37, 8 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Geisha and Client

I would respectfully ask you to reconsider your suggested downgrade of the Geisha and Client Featured Picture on the following grounds. (1) It is a rare glimpse of a real geisha and client involved in traditional ozashiki. (2) This is a photo of the last geisha in Japan to "turn collar" in the 20th century. (3) Featured status reduces the changes that it will be frivolously deleted. (4) It was of high enough caliber to be sought after by a text book publisher. (5) It is a revealing picture to those intimate with the nuances of the subject matter. (6) It is an aesthetically pleasing picture overall, though not artistically perfect. Please take these points into consideration. Thank you for assessing this critically. ToddLara (talk) 04:20, 28 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] ping!

G'day liam - hope you're not too crazy busy! - I've sent you a skype message or two, so take a look when you get the chance... Privatemusings (talk) 04:13, 3 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Thanks!

For this, that is. Cheers, Master of Puppets Call me MoP! 14:54, 5 March 2008 (UTC)

That does come in handy indeed. I'm still waiting for a DNA computer to fight vandalism for us... :P Master of Puppets Call me MoP! 22:34, 5 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] transcription

Um ... yeah. A temp agency used to send me out to do transcription for pay, so I'm relatively fast at it. Tlogmer ( talk / contributions ) 17:58, 5 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Mr Lama

Mr Lama, nice to hear from you! :) I was just thinking of you a couple of days ago. I found your business card and I thought, "Hmm, I wonder how the lama is, haven't seen him around much latey." The DoS looks fantastic, well done to all involved (and nice picture of you :)). Volunteering for OTRS is quite easy, just go here and add your name to the list. There are instuctions at the top of the page. About IRC, I'm afraid I'm with you on that boat. Daniel very patiently helped me get onto IRC the other night but I haven't been brave enough to venture beyond the WMA channel yet. :) I shall add you to the WMA press list. Radio/TV/newspaper in NSW? It's just an informal list of people who don't mind being contacted but it doesn't obligate you to actually do anything. I started it when I handled the request from Channel 10 for someone to go on "9 am with David & Kim" as we stuffed them around a bit with Angela agreeing to do it but then having to pull out when she and Tim moved up your way. It was then really difficult to find someone else willing to step in. So I started the press list as a starting base for future requests. If you need help with anything you can always email me or ping me on gtalk, sarahewart at gmail dot com and I'll try to help. Take care, Sarah 00:08, 19 March 2008 (UTC) PS I'm going to put my meetup pictures up soon. Sarah 00:08, 19 March 2008 (UTC)

Hey - interesting userpage! Sarah 00:11, 19 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Re: the Sydney Journal

Hi there, Just thought I'd drop you, and others from the recent meetup, a line and mention that the first edition of the Dictionary of Sydney's online, peer-reviewed journal is now live.

The Sydney Journal is the first (and most academically rigorous) "product" of the Dictionary. It will be a quarterly publication with a variety of texts from upcoming Dictionary articles and is hosted by UTS E-press. This edition features 4 thematic articles, 6 ethnicities and 5 suburbs - all specifically related to Sydney.

I hope you find it useful and interesting - If nothing else it's essays are eminently referenceable for their corresponding articles here on WP.

Best, Witty Lama 12:55, 17 March 2008 (UTC)

Nice! I'll look forward to reading more of those as they come out. --bainer (talk) 01:47, 20 March 2008 (UTC)

Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. KnightLago (talk) 14:39, 22 March 2008 (UTC)

Question, how did you move the page back to its proper place? When I attempted the move it told me that I couldn't move the page back because the destination had history and that I needed to delete the page before the move. Thanks. KnightLago (talk) 14:43, 22 March 2008 (UTC)
I know you didn't create the page. I reverted the user's 5 vandalism edits with Twinkle. I think you moved the page right before I reverted those edits. So when I reverted, Twinkle looked at the author of the page, which would be you due to the move, and left the warning there. I know you weren't at fault, but Twinkle thought you were. [edit] G'day

G'day esteemed person who has expressed interest in Sydney based meetups at this page (I hope that's the correct wording for the formal greeting!!). You may have heard that Australia is to have its very own 'chapter' of the Wikimedia Foundation - and further, there's a meeting coming up to discuss / enact the chapter's incorporation (details here). I'm afraid that I don't know too much about the details of what this entails, other than having a private hope that we might get a secret handshake, and maybe cheap coffee at wikimania (this is a poor attempt at humour - I'm sure that the Chapter's do great work, and it's a good thing that Australia is to have one).

If you're interested in meeting up this weekend (the set date is the 20th) - or later, then please do head over here and sign up, or make a comment at the talk page... the drive to create the chapter has largely come from another town in Australia that I'm afraid I haven't actually heard much about.. and anything they can do.... right? - cheers, Privatemusings (talk) 11:11, 14 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Drinks and a wiki chat?

G'day sydneysider - fancy a 'not quite a meetup but a few drinks' sort of thing? - We can chat about the new aussie chapter, the price of eggs and have our very own 2020 Wiki Summit! - or just sink a couple of cold ones and gass bag about the good 'ol days of wiki, when an editor could get some repsect (not a typo)! I've suggested something here so take a look and sign up if you're up for it... cheers, Privatemusings (talk) 02:28, 24 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Links, etc.

I agree about neutrality. It would probably be necessary to create a separate legal entity to deal with a paid newsroom editor.

Regarding my "academic" writing, it consists of pleas to my colleagues to get involved with Wikipedia. Here are the relevant links:

The first article also has a few references at the end that you'll want in your bibliography if they aren't there already.--ragesoss (talk) 03:09, 25 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Your Thesis

Hi there. I heard that you were working on a Wiki-related thesis. I think this is a great idea. And I have two suggestions. First, on the issue of whether there should be a newsroom over at WikiNews, Sue Gardner was a journalist and manager at the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation before joining WikiMedia; you'd get some good insight from an interview with her. Second, on the lit review, I thought I'd point you toward a discussion among historians prompted by Sage Ross' writings: [3]. This has been expanded on several Talk pages here at WP; let me know if you're interested in following-up and I'll dig the links up for you.... Good luck! -JTBurman (talk) 20:32, 25 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Wikimedia Radio

If you hadn't already heard  ;) - m:WM:RADIO

Apparently someone is trying to revive an audio stream...

It needs feedback and contributors.

I already have a programme idea, but it would need specfic contributions from the australian Wikimedian community :) ShakespeareFan00 (talk) 00:08, 29 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] two quick questions;

hopefully you might be able to make both! cheers, Privatemusings (talk) 06:34, 30 April 2008 (UTC)
