[edit] About Me
"I have no special talents. I am only passionately curious."
My name is Darren W. Mize, and I am a sophomore Wikipedian (active since December 2006), a member of the Society for Creative Anachronism, a graduate of Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College and a former student of Missouri Southern State University and Södertörns högskola. I am a Physical Therapist Assistant and member of the American Physical Therapy Association. I am an avid student of History, Anthropology, and Language, including English, Old English, German, and Swedish. I am a US citizen, born in Oklahoma, and a resident of Missouri. I enjoy traveling and have visited 44 U.S. states (all except Alaska, Hawaii, Maine, Montana, North Dakota and South Dakota), as well as Mexico, Canada, Iceland, Sweden, and (briefly) Finland. I participate sporadically in the SCA, where I participate in Arts and Sciences events and occasional armored combat, and I study Heraldry, Tafl games, and other historical board games. I enjoy listening to music, especially Opeth, Dark Tranquillity, Amon Amarth, Sigur Rós, Amiina, as well as a host of Progressive Metal and Viking Metal artists.

[edit] Academics
I graduated from Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College in Miami, Oklahoma in 2005 with an Associate of Applied Science degree in Physical Therapy. I have more recently attended classes at Missouri Southern State University in Joplin, Missouri in pursuit of Bachelor of Arts degrees in History and "International Studies" (~Cultural anthropology), and minoring in German). I also studied the History of the English language at MSSU. I participated in the International Student Exchange Program in 2006, studying for six months at Södertörns högskola near Stockholm, Sweden. There, I studied Swedish language, History of Scandinavia, Cultures of Scandinavia and Nordic Politics. During my stay, I made many new friends from many different places, including several native speakers of German, giving me many opportunities to expand my understanding of German as well. Due to my recent move to Louisiana, I am unable to finish my classes at this time.
I have been involved in the Society for Creative Anachronism off and on since A.S. XXX, starting in Ansteorra and then moving to Calontir, where I became active in the Shire of Crystal Mynes. I have recently moved to Gleann Abhann, where I am working with groups in the area to establish a Stronghold. I have centered my studies around 14th century Germany, and the focus of my medieval studies is a fictional character (persona) named "Wilhelm Meis". This has since become a pseudonym for gaming, MySpace and other activities.
Thanks to my involvement in the SCA, I have learned numerous skills, including sewing, making mail and plate armour, heraldry and vexillology, making flags and banners, tanning, shoemaking, winemaking, metalworking, woodworking, board games, embroidery and combat reenactment.
Board games I have long enjoyed playing board games such as Chess, Risk, Stratego, Feudal, Monopoly, Scrabble and Breakthru (board game), and more recently I have learned about Tafl games (of which Breakthru is is a modern variant).
Role playing games I have also long enjoyed playing Dungeons & Dragons (especially 1st ed AD&D).
Video games I'm not much for keeping abreast of the latest video games, I like the old stuff. Okay, not quite Pong kind of old, but NES kind of old, like the Dragon Warrior series. I also occasionally play Risk II.
My interests in music run wide - here are a few:
I am also interested in classical music, including Bach, Beethoven, Chopin, Mozart and Wagner.
