If Wikiholiday means to take a break from the Wiki, what is the term for going on a trip for the expressed purpose of collecting photos and information to place on the wiki? - Dr Haggis - Talk 23:06, 28 July 2005 (UTC)
- Wikitrip? naturally. -- Taku 01:18, July 29, 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Template
I made a template. I prefer to call it a "wikibreak" rather than "wikiholiday"; however, I'd reckon a wikiholiday is a long absence, and a wikibreak a short one. What do you think? (I won't be answering your comments for a week, though
Borisblue 04:02, 12 September 2005 (UTC)
- So you are the first wiki to use the template?! :) I'll go for it when needed of course. Svest 18:38, September 12, 2005 (UTC) Wiki me up™

Can anyone explain what this reason to depart means?

I added another reason for going on wikbreak. If anyone objects remove it and list why here.—The preceding unsigned comment was added by Acebrock (talk • contribs) 19:25, 29 March 2006.

[edit] New template for your consideration.
Created by my want of a suitable template (if you like it, I'll make it a template, something like {{user health inactive}} - or suggest a better name):
| This user is currently experiencing health issues that may affect his or her ability to work on Wikipedia. |
|
Please let me know what you think.

natha(?)nrdotcom (T • C • W) 23:12, 2 April 2006 (UTC)
- I haven't seen any objections so I'll just go ahead and add that template as {{user health inactive}}. —
nathanrdotcom (T • C • W) 05:25, 10 April 2006 (UTC)
- I think this will do frankly:
| This user is currently experiencing health issues that may affect his or her ability to work on Wikipedia. |

Borisblue 06:45, 24 April 2006 (UTC)
- I guess so. You can go edit the template too. —

[edit] Mental health template
Any ideas for a mental health template? It's very much needed. I might get off my butt and write one. —

[edit] Merge
David and I have done some extensive work on the wikibreak template. We have decided to merge them all into one template, and to do the exams template, for example, put |type=exams| when calling the template. I have been bold and did that (the original templates still work like normal, don't worry). But, I was wondering if we should depreciate the old ones and use the main one now. Any objections? GeorgeMoney (talk) 23:05, 11 July 2006 (UTC)
- This sound good. But could you explain further? Would it look something like {{Wikibreak|type=exams|July 28}}? If not, what would it be. And what do you mean the originals will still work normal? I thought you just said you will consolidating them. TeckWizTalkContribsGuestbook 02:57, 12 July 2006 (UTC)
- From User talk:GeorgeMoney#{{Wikibreak}}: So long as the unified template remains simple to use for those folk not interested in tweaking it but carries the functionality for those who are, I'd say it's an improvement. How best to handle the legacy of those folk currently using the old template or its variants is something I feel others more experienced than I should handle; as before, commandeering a bot to update these instances would seem the norm. Best wishes, David Kernow 15:02, 12 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] The school template
I copied a template, modified it slightly, and created the School template, as seen on the project page. But I'm not sure how to change the picture from the sunset to schoolbooks like the others. Can someone do this for me? Thanks. Veracious Rey talk • contribs • review 19:49, 10 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] monobook.js?
I remember reading where someone said that they had edited their monobook.js to self-enforce a break fr5om Wikipedia. Does anyone know how to do this? --Chris Griswold (☎☓) 02:27, 1 March 2007 (UTC)
I edited my monobook with a script to make me go to recovering from wikipediholism every hour. It may be a slight modification of that. SmileToday☺(talk to me , My edits) 21:39, 2 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Going away for work wikibreak
I was disapointed to see there was no work wikibreak im going away on thursday and I've gotta use the generic wikibreak template, I'd add my own template but im useless, just thought id add my 20c.
Cheers Beaver 23:46, 18 March 2007 (UTC)
- I absolutely agree. I was looking for one too, but have to use the generic one. Amit 14:28, 11 August 2007 (UTC)
[edit] In case of wikipedian death
I've been looking where to ask this for a while. Is there a formal process for when a wikipedian dies? Although this is a theoretical question, I am named executor on a couple of wills. I suppose I would log onto their computer and request a name change to "username (dec.)"; and place a message on their userpage. Polypipe Wrangler 10:06, 22 April 2007 (UTC)
- I suppose if a Wikipedian dies...telling the Wiki-Community should not really by high on anyone's list. However, if the person did leave instruction that upon their death the Wiki-Community was informed then you could always get onto their computer and leave a message on the User page.
A big box that said, "Unfortunately USER has passed away" or something is a little cheesy...Could be a good source for morbid humor ofcourse. Gavin Scott (talk) 21:50, 5 February 2008 (UTC)
[edit] New "Vacation" template
I noticed that Template:Vacation redirected to Template:Holiday. In the US, the word "Holiday" is only used to refer to religious days of celebration, and government-sanctioned days of rememberance such as Martin Luther King Day. Going away on a trip is referred to as a vacation. Therefore, I have created the Template:Vacation as a separate entity so that users can choose whichever word they like. [edit] Simple wikibreak template
What we could use is a template that simply sais "user is taking a wikibreak", neither short nor long, and with no expected time of return. sephia karta 10:36, 14 August 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Request
Am I able to request a custom wiki-break box? I'd try and make one myself, but the end result would not be satisfying, as I have absolutely no idea how to use/make templates :D THE DARK LORD TROMBONATOR 09:31, 27 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Shortcut
I added a short-cut and made a redirect page to the bonked section. I thought it could be useful to explain the concept of being wiki-bonked to a new editor. In hindsight, I'm not sure how useful it is... :S

[edit] Nature of page
Shouldn't one of these templates:
be on this page? Temperaltalk and matrix? 22:10, 25 December 2007 (UTC)
No because the Wiki-Break template or Wiki-retired template can be used seriously. Gavin Scott (talk) 21:51, 5 February 2008 (UTC)
- The description content appears very non-serious, though. Nousernamesleftcopper, not wood 19:04, 9 February 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Seriously
WHAT is the point of this page!?!? it seems more of a lame joke than a article.
Well, when you're talking about more of a lame joke than an encyclopedia to begin with - I mean, you know - when in Rome, and all that... —Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.138.182.122 (talk) 23:57, 9 March 2008 (UTC)
- It's not an article, it's in the Wikipedia namespace. It's not just a joke either, I always refer to this page when I want to let my fellow editors know I will be inactive for some reason. --Puchiko (Talk-email) 18:06, 19 March 2008 (UTC)
Wow, you two gave me no reason whatsoever why this page is here and the stupid excuses of sillieness of rampaging Wiki-Nerds giving life-shatering insults to me...why am here?!?!? Oh, yeah...wait i'm a Wikipedia, just remembered, gotta go take a Wikibreak
