[edit] Proposal - Rescope
Queensland proposes some unique challenges for the Australian Places WikiProject under which it falls, due to the non-exclusivity of Brisbane as an urban area. The Gold Coast project has completely failed at any stage to get off the ground, but I wish to propose the extension of its scope to make it viable. The two options I foresee are:
- All of South East Queensland apart from those areas within Brisbane City. The scope would cover a population of almost 1.7 million, as well as SEQ infrastructure which links Brisbane with other areas.
- All of Queensland apart from those areas within Brisbane City. If this was done, between three and six task forces (SEQ, NQ, FNQ etc) could be established to ensure that local editors can collaborate in different areas of the state.
Ordinarily I would have proposed that Brisbane be left to cover the entire Brisbane Statistical Division, but reality is that the Brisbane project has not shown a significant interest in doing this, and if this project were to be successful, it probably wouldn't needed to.
What do others think? Orderinchaos 22:08, 12 October 2007 (UTC)
- Option 2 would be the best option I think. A WP:QLD has been needed for some time and this is a great opportunity to get one started. The project should cover all Queensland except WP:BRISBANE and WP:TOWNSVILLE. I would let task forces grow organically rather than create them at this stage. When some editors interested in Rocky for example decide to collaborate, then a task force could be established but until then I would leave it as a unitary body. This is very exciting! -- Mattinbgn\ talk 23:05, 12 October 2007 (UTC)
- Already talked to the Townsville people, they'd actually be happy to merge with a QLD project so long as a task force enabling them to track their own articles is maintained - this is quite doable. Orderinchaos 23:07, 12 October 2007 (UTC)
- I prefer Option 2 as well. -- Longhair\talk 23:07, 12 October 2007 (UTC)
- Agree with Mattin & Longhair. WP:QLD is the best option. Twenty Years 02:51, 13 October 2007 (UTC)
- Option 2 as well, covers all of QLD except for the areas within the Brisbane City Council. --Arnzy (talk · contribs) 12:06, 13 October 2007 (UTC)
I hope nobody minds, but I've been bold and gone off and created the new project at WP:QLD. When I have time in the week I'll migrate some articles in using AWB. The project page is a near-carbon copy of NSW, so nothing there is sacred - if you see something you think can be improved, go ahead :) Orderinchaos 06:00, 13 October 2007 (UTC)
