Welcome to WikiProject Photography. Our goal is the improvement of the quality and organization of Wikipedia's images.
This WikiProject's primary aim is to encourage the contribution and improvement of photographs on Wikipedia. The project seeks to act as a focal point for photographers, photo editors, and digital artists such that requests to improve articles with photographs and the photographs themselves can be dealt with in a timely manner. Hopefully this project will drive contributions in the form of "Collaboration of the Week", and act as a noticeboard for photographers and interested editors. We also hope to form a community that embraces Wikipedia:Requested pictures and other photo-matching services, as well as Featured pictures and Feature picture candidates.

[edit] How You Can Help
[edit] Organizing Photo Requests
The Wikipedia requested photographs category is badly overcrowded. This category consists of all articles with an unqualified {{reqphoto}} template. These articles could instead be put into a more descriptive subcategory by adding parameters to the {{reqphoto}} template: e.g. {{reqphoto|marsupials}} or {{reqphoto|in=Upper Zomgolia}}.
At the time of this writing there are several thousand unclassified photo requests. Consider going through a few of these articles when you have time and reclassifying the photo requests appropriately.
Some tips to keep in mind:
- Stick to existing categories whenever possible. If there's already a architecture category, it's probably not necessary to create an additional category for "buildings."
- Try to think like a photographer. If you were a photographer trying to find out what images Wikipedia needs the most, where would you look? What's the most sensible way to divide up the image requests in a way that would be useful to the people who will be actually taking the pictures? A photographer might be more likely to look through "Wikipedia requested photographs of skyscrapers" than "Wikipedia requested photographs of objects made out of brick".
- Don't be afraid to take liberties with the category definitions. If you're looking at an article that does not seem to fall neatly into any category that we have, it's okay to put it in a category that's generally related to its subject matter. For example, a request for a photograph of a music studio probably fits better into the musicians category than in the architecture category -- the reason that the music studio is of interest is probably less for its physical design than in the artists who record there.
- When it is necessary to create a new category, be general. If you're reorganizing the cars category, it's probably overly specific to create a "1957 Chevrolets". A broader category for "Chevrolets" is a better place to start.
