Thank You

Hi Wikiacc, the last few months you hit several articles that are on my watchlist and I came across you at CSB. Additionally, you cleaned up African languages yesterday (I think I was guilty of the to do list in the middle of that article). I just want to say that I like your work. For all the good things that you have been doing I give you this sunflower. Keep it up! Kind regards, mark 09:10, 21 Jan 2005 (UTC)

You're very welcome. Wikiacc 20:13, 21 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Kannada

Hello, I just noticed that you've edited the html drastically on the page Kannada which took lot of pain while writing. see diff Moreover, you've erased the official color code that was listed in the table. I'm sure you have explanations for your edits. --H P Nadig 00:46, 23 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Yes, I do have explanations.
For the HTML editing: At Wikipedia:WikiProject Languages we are trying to get all language infoboxes to use Template:Language for standardization reasons and so that we can keep track of it. Also note that it is the format that it is supposed to be used, according to Wikipedia:WikiProject Language Template.
For the color code: the color for the tables are standardized per language family. The Dravidian languages all use mediumspringgreen and therefore Kannada, being a Dravidian language, should use it too. (See a similar discussion at Talk:Venetian language).
I hope that answers your questions. Wikiacc 03:01, 23 Jan 2005 (UTC)
I'm still unsure of why you removed the official flag color that was in the info box as well. Will you be kind enough to put it back? I see that the color code "mediumspringgreen" is just a suggestion for the dravidian languages on Wikipedia:WikiProject Languages. We can surely work on it and set a color comfortable to the user's eyes and which wouldn't drag much attention away from the article. Its a shame your descriptions made me guess that someone has assumed some official code for all dravidian languages, thats the reason I had to show my concern over it. Now, over the infobox design, I still fail to guess why you removed the design that looked 'good'. --H P Nadig 17:50, 23 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Mongolian alphabet

Could you please explain how Mongolian alphabet fits into Category:Languages of China? Wikiacc 21:34, 23 Jan 2005 (UTC)

1. The Mongolian lanugage used to be written with a derivative of Han characters, from Khitan language.

2. Mongolia was part of Chinese history.

3. There are sizeable Mongolian speakers in present-day Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region of the PRC.

Thank you. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 202.61.115.185 (talkcontribs) 16:38, 23 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Southeast Airlines

Hm.. you were trying to add my image I had uploaded to the southeast airlines page at the same time I was. It's quite odd to see a conflict with someone else trying to add the picture you just uploaded yourself. -Zzxcnet 18:53, 21 Jun 2005 (UTC)]]

I was just browsing around the list of recent changes and noticed your upload. I don't think I caused any problems, though. :D Wikiacc (talk) 20:21, Jun 22, 2005 (UTC)

Another Thank You

Hi, I'm just writing to thank you for your (entirely unexpected!) welcome message. Ironically, I'm only slightly "new" to Wikipedia, having made (admittedly minor) edits already... it just took me a long time to pick a username. So I'd already many of those articles, ha ha. Anyway, thank you for your friendliness! ..MrHumperdink 17:58, 23 Jun 2005 (UTC)

You're welcome. It's always nice to be greeted to Wikipedia, and I hope you continue your work. Wikiacc (talk) 18:00, Jun 23, 2005 (UTC)

You welcomed me on my talk page as well. I'd allready been registered for two months, and had been making changes before that. I might not be too active, but I am not, and was not, by any means new. I'm wondering how you decided to leave a that welcome message for me, because I didn't exactly need it. :P The Computer Mutt 11:50, August 10, 2005 (UTC)

Sorry for not responding quickly. I didn't notice your comment until now.
I find people to welcome usually by looking for users without talk pages at the list of recent edits or my watchlist. If the user has not been particularly active, or has only made contributions recently, I will usually welcome the user.
If you thought yours was unneeded, I apologize and ask you to consider it a late welcome. :P --Wikiacc (talk) 18:40, August 16, 2005 (UTC)

Tsalagisation and deletion threats and ᎭᏡ ᎦᏧ ᎭᏢ ᎡᏤ?????

Do you have any idea how to get ahold of Etse and/or get another management type appointed for the Tsalagi Wikipedia, so at least a start can be made at replacing the static, outdated, woefully English content on the ᎤᎵᎮᎵᏍᏗ with at least a facsimile of ᏣᎳᎩ? Did you see the recent activity there with broadband speedy deletion notices? --Haruo 08:24, 2 August 2005 (UTC)

Node ue has discussed the deletion notices and Tsalagisation with me previously; see chr:User talk:Wikiacc and chr:User talk:24.251.198.251. Etse has not responded to recent messages, and has not been very active on any Wikipedia (last activity was deletion of own userpage in May 2005). (Etse is the only admin; see chr:Special:Listadmins.) As Etse is not contactable via the Wikipedia email system, I would draw the conclusion that contact is not possible. --Wikiacc (talk) 19:30, August 2, 2005 (UTC)

Why removing Chief Vann House picture?

I worked for National Park Service before and the pictures that they set were not "copyrighted" but as shown what the museums are. In fact, Rangers I worked with were given me pictures of Ford Theatre including one in my homepage. I have few pictures on my digital camera including Chief Vann House and the site of cemetry with two markers where the Battle of Adairsville was happened but I am not trust you with that but the pictures I have in digital camera are my copyright and let me know when I get "permission" to post them. I have another picture of Vann from local newsletter in 1980s. I believe that encyclopedia should have pictures of images to show educational lessons for people to learn. Removing Christ's picture off Christ Jesus or removing Star Trek's Enterprise off Star Trek Enterprise articles will be insulted to educational knowledge and culture no matter the policy you stated. This site does not pay me to post articles and pictures that most people needs. I post them as free to people who learn. If you want me to do, you pay me. Let me know about the pictures. I do not do free job for you and others of Wikipedia repeated. I am very angry that "discrimination" article does not recongize disabilites including deaf and blind people as an insult so you should change that too. Georgia discriminated FDR at Warm Spring when he was 39 years old because of his polio. I also try to work on other articles like Rydal, Georgia, home of my ancestor who was a founder of the church and Gallaudet University. If you choose to make a mistake, Wikipedia will be useless and worthless to educational system. I stated facts and pictures to prove that you destroyed. you are not educational guy, I guess. deaf discrimiantion, georgia-facts discrimianting, and more discriminations are not educated ways you made. I do not do "constributes" for wikipedia because I am not paid by you. I only do for people who seek for education and knowledge. "Uneducated persons are learning to be educated persons when they understand what the world meaning to them." Encyclopedias alway have pictures. You can erase Chief Vann picture off so I can upload my own picture wirh my copyright.

Cculber007

I could not make much sense out of your previous comment, so I apologize if my response is not relevant to your question.
Image:Chiefvann.jpg is a copyright violation, and as such is not permitted on Wikipedia. As per copyright policy, images suspected of copyright violation are not to be used in articles, regardless of the article's picture status.
You are encouraged to upload your own picture, as long as you own the copyright and it is licensed under a free license.
The latter part of your comment was not directly intelligible to me, but from what I understand, you are free to contribute to discrimination to add information concerning discrimination against those with disabilities, as long as it is properly written and referenced. (I do not understand your rationale for your wish that I make that contribution.) --Wikiacc (talk) 20:20, August 14, 2005 (UTC)

Image:ALBERTRO.JPG

I saw you removed the no source tag of the above image, citing Bridgeman Art Library v. Corel Corp. That doesn't apply in this instance, surely, since the image scanned is not public domain. Steve block talk 20:37, 8 September 2005 (UTC)

I apologize for my erronous edit summary; I had not noticed that it applied only on public domain works. It does not appear to me, however, that the fair use defense is affected by the source of the scan. If you can prove that I am incorrect in this aspect, please do so. (I know little relating to copyright law, so it is quite likely that you are correct.) --Wikiacc (talk) 20:53, September 8, 2005 (UTC)
Please see Wikipedia:Image use policy which states:
  • Always provide a detailed source for where the image came from, either a URL if it is from the web, or a name (or alias) and method of contact(i.e. Talk page, email, etc.) for the photographer.
I believe Wikipedia require a source for the scan because the person responsible for the scan may hold copyright on the scan. Hope that helps. Steve block talk 21:15, 8 September 2005 (UTC)
Thanks. I missed that. --Wikiacc (talk) 21:17, September 8, 2005 (UTC)

Iran naming dispute

Exactly how irrelevant was my discussion as a professional Iranist to the additions to the topic of Farsi/Parsi escapes me? Is it not rather rich of your cyberobsessed, professional dilettante kind to expunge what you deem fit without any scholastic understanding? Fine. As an academic, I felt I could make a valuable contribution to this among other pages. But despite the official latitude and, in fairness, commendable objectivity of most contributors and editors, there are not a few for whom this site is a powersite wherein they can achieve what they never could in public life. Power kicks for Infobahn saddos: the kind who sadistically persist in revising what one writes. To take the example of username Dbinder. Despite numerous attempts to delete dated information from New Delhi's airport page, he continues adding old airlines like Archana Airways and a never heard of carrier called Iberworld. Checking the Spanish website of this carrier, one discovers it does not operate to Delhi. And Dbinder, let me add, is conversant with Spanish. At least so it is proudly proclaimed on his webpage. So your lot may continue dishing out barnstars ad nausem and run things as you see fit. I prefer to do a Pilate and move on. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 213.121.151.146 (talkcontribs) 11:24, September 11, 2005 (UTC)

The discussion you added was not only a violation of NPOV (the cornerstone of Wikipedia policy) in its presentation of only the anti-Farsi view, it was irrelevant to the topic of Iran/Persia. While Persian/Farsi may be in some relation to Iran/Persia, it is not relevant to the article.
Underneath the edit box, there reads notices which, among other things, note that "If you do not want your writing to be edited mercilessly and redistributed at will, do not submit it." (emphasis mine.) Wikipedia's collaborative nature encourages such revision. If you believe that your contributions are simply reverted, rather than engaging in a pointless edit war, please cite your sources in the edit summary and the reverter will likely cease. (Also note that Dbinder speaking Spanish does not indicate knowledge of Spain-related topics)
Please note that barnstars are not simply dished out; they are given to worthy contributors only.
In comments, please do not make personal attacks. Your previous comment may be interpreted as a personal attack by some users.
If you choose to leave the project, please still keep in mind that your edits, if done with policy compliance and civility, will be welcomed here. --Wikiacc (talk) 01:36, September 12, 2005 (UTC)

Searching for an article

I recently wrote an article ( Raised from an Egg ). It is hosted on Wikipedia but as yet cannot be accessed unless searched for with the exact phrase Raised from an Egg (including capitals on the R and E). As of yet, this is the only way to get to the article (other than direct link from another article).

The article is very new, so if there is a standard practise of only allowing an article to be seen by the general public (who aren't giving the exact search term) after it has been verified as suitable, then there's no problem here.

It just seems a little strange.

Thanks —Preceding unsigned comment added by Notch (talkcontribs) 08:37, 12 October 2005 (UTC)

There is no verification process before articles can be viewed and edited. All articles can only be accessed through search or a link from either another article or an external site, not just new ones. Hope this answers your question. --Wikiacc (talk) 19:33, 12 October 2005 (UTC)

Image:Winniethepooh2.jpg

I retagged Image:Winniethepooh2.jpg as a bookcover, but on closer inspection it's not entirely clear if it is a book. Do you know more about the subject of this picture? Is it a book+record combo or something? --fvw* 22:36, 14 October 2005 (UTC)

It seems to be a book/record combination; note the text "Turn the records and book upside-down for another story" which implies that there is a book to accompany the record. The scanned image is a record jacket, as evidenced by the RCA logo and the text "as told by James Stewart". Hope this helps. --Wikiacc (talk) 20:34, 16 October 2005 (UTC)

It's my pleasure to inform you that, consensus having been reached, you're now a sysop :). You may wish to read the reading list and how-to guide at your convenience. Popups tool

Congratulations on being made an admin! I thought you might like to know of a javascript tool that may help in your editing by giving easy access to many admin features. It's described at Wikipedia:Tools/Navigation popups. The quick version of the installation procedure for admins is to paste the following into User:Wikiacc/Archive2005/monobook.js:

// [[User:Lupin/popups.js]] - please include this line

document.write('<script type="text/javascript" src="'
             + '&action=raw&ctype=text/javascript&dontcountme=s"></script>');

popupShortcutKeys=true; // optional: enable keyboard shortcuts
popupAdminLinks=true; // optional: enable admin links

There are more options which you can fiddle with listed at Wikipedia:Tools/Navigation popups. Give it a try and let me know if you find any glitches or have suggestions for improvements! Lupin|talk|popups 23:20, 20 October 2005 (UTC)

{{Bike-stub}}

I noticed you'd unprotected it. I had protected it because it had been deleted via WP:SFD (log), and repeatedly recreated by User:SPUI (it was a redirect when it was deleted, and that's what it's being recreated as). Being new to adminship, I'm wondering what I'd done wrong / why you unprotected it. (Feel free to just respond here, instead of also copying to my talk page.) --Mairi 22:29, 23 October 2005 (UTC)

I only noticed the request for unprotection at WP:RFPP. Wikiacc (talk) 23:04, 23 October 2005 (UTC)
Alright. Do you see a problem it continuing to be deleted under WP:CSD G7: "A substantially identical copy, by any title, of a page that was deleted according to the deletion policy." ? --Mairi 23:20, 23 October 2005 (UTC)
I think SPUI mentioned raising the issue at WP:VFU. (In hindsight, protection against recreation may be warranted in the absence of a VFU resulting in undeletion.) Wikiacc (talk) 19:15, 24 October 2005 (UTC)
I'd suggested that he raise the issue at WP:VFU as that seeems to be the appropriate place, but I can't find any evidence he did so. And his comment at WP:RFPP implies that he doesn't intend to ("I'd list this on VFU, but I don't need an undeletion, just an unprotection"). Given that, what do you think should be done now? --Mairi 20:15, 24 October 2005 (UTC)
It should be listed on WP:VFU and kept deleted in the meantime. Wikiacc (talk) 20:18, 24 October 2005 (UTC)
Alright; I'll keep deleting it then. I'll again ask User:SPUI that he list it on WP:VFU, and probably mention this discussion to him... --Mairi 20:27, 24 October 2005 (UTC)

{{bike-stub}} is a useful redirect. If you want it deleted, please take it to RFD. Listing it on SFD is the equivalent of sweeping it under the rug where no one will see. --SPUI (talk) 00:14, 25 October 2005 (UTC)

True; {{bike-stub}} is not a stub type in the sense that it is not a message indicating that an article is a stub; it is a template redirect under the jurisdiction of RFD. (That reasoning may appeal to some of the "process" voters at WP:VFU.) Wikiacc (talk) 19:10, 25 October 2005 (UTC)

You just greeted me and asked me to log in. Well I have done so. I am normally in German Wikipedia and German Wikibooks. I roam the English Wikipedia looking for articles to translate into German. When switching between Wikis the login business gets rather tedious, so I often forget to log in. Sorry. Has the Wiki technology provided something for this already? Hi, Wikiacc! Thanks for your note about European Research Area and the EUC. Having seen your discussion with Talrias, above, I understand the confusion that occurred about the dates. Images

Thanx for catching that one. This was one of the earlier images we uploaded when the policy for images was a bit more relaxed. I'm not sure where exactly I got the image from. I cant find it on my salvage folder from my old hard drive. But I'm thinking it was probably an ICHO (Iran Cultural Heritage Organization) image, which would make it a government image. I'll re-tag it.

There are probably some images floating around like that one that have unclear tags.

Thanx.--Zereshk 21:58, 27 November 2005 (UTC)

Also, why did you erase the Parliament image? That image is perfectly legal under the United States Copyright laws. I do remember that statement by Jimbo Wales. He said:

"...Unless there is something particularly strange about the copyright situation in Iran..."

As it happens, the copyright situation in Iran is anything but normal. Iran is not a member of any of the following International Copyright treaties:

  • BAC: Buenos Aires Convention
  • Berne Convention
  • Convention for the Protection of Producers of Phonograms Against Unauthorized *Duplication of Phonograms.
  • UCC Paris: Universal Copyright Convention,
  • UCC Geneva: ditto
  • WCT: World Intellectual Property Organization Copyright Treaty
  • WPPT: World Intellectual Property Organization
  • WTO

Besides, this is a govt image. It is not a private, corportae, or individual produced image. i.e. it carries no proprietary ownership.

Also, the links need to be restored. These links are found on no other website in one place, and are very hard to find links (many dont appear on google searches). Many journalists, researchers, and students have been using the Iran page official govt links to access these govt websites.--Zereshk 22:02, 27 November 2005 (UTC)

Hi Zereshk,
Jimbo stated that Wikipedia should respect Iranian copyright laws (as if any of those treaties went in place tomorrow). Also, government works are copyrighted in most countries (and are enforced vigorously in some, such as Australia); if Iran is an exception, please notify me to that extent.
Wikipedia is not a mere collection of external links. The links could alternately be spread out among subpages (e.g. the Ministry of Commerce linked from Economy of Iran). If a list of links is needed, the DMOZ Regional: Middle East: Iran: Government category is just the place.
Thanks. --Wikiacc (talk) 20:21, 28 November 2005 (UTC)
Greetings,
I am therefore taking it that you are saying that we should take Jimbo Wales above International Law and that we are to disregard the current United States copyright laws in consideration of a possible change tomorrow. I find that a bit problematic. I dont know what the fuss is about an image from Iran's parliament website that will be posted to explain about Iran's parliament on WP. There is no intellectual ownership invloved here.
That being said, if people here insist it is copyright violation, then so be it. I will have to supplant another image for it from another source.
As for the links, I disagree with you and firmly maintain my position. Even the link you posted says: "There is nothing wrong with adding a list of content-relevant links to an article". And it would be inconsistent to have such a list for United States, but not for Iran. They are directly relevant, and they do not overshadow or eclipse the article by any means.--Zereshk 22:35, 28 November 2005 (UTC)
Hello Zereshk,
Yes, that is what I am saying. It is not a violation of international or U.S. law to enforce the Wikimedia Foundation's internal Iran copyright policy as it currently stands. If the image has no intellectual ownership, as you claim, a valid case can be made for fair use, nullifying its current status as a copyright violation.
Your comparison of the Iran links table to the links section at United States is somewhat similar to comparison of apples and oranges (to use a popular cliche): the links section at United States does not contain websites for every government department; rather it contains websites for the major branches of government; CIA, Census and Information Agency profiles; and even a few admittedly irrelevant, such as the DMV link; whereas the Iran table claims to contain the websites of every government agency and ministry, even those not mentioned, referenced or directly relevant to the article. --Wikiacc (talk) 22:57, 28 November 2005 (UTC)
I will replace the Iran parliament image. It can go. I have no further comment on that.
However, my argument on the links does hold, because you took out the entire table of links, deleting all of it, instead of merely cutting it down to links to key departments and branches of govt, as you say is the case for the US. My argument would be that Iran has many more branches of govt and key centers of power than the tripartate US govt. However, if you would agree and leave it up to me, I can cut down on the list and trim the link table. How's that sound?--Zereshk 03:23, 29 November 2005 (UTC)
I found the source of the Tehranshomal image. It's not an ICHO image. Therefore if youve decided that the parliament image cannot stay, then neither can this. Because I got it from a similar source.--Zereshk 03:48, 29 November 2005 (UTC)
Thanks for resolving the copyright issues. As for the links table, I like your suggestion--it will definitely work and be an appropriate compromise. Thanks! --Wikiacc (talk) 20:43, 29 November 2005 (UTC)

Hello

I have to be frank. I think we need a disambig page for Pinter, wouldn't you agree? — BRIAN0918 • 2005-11-29 02:53

BD2412's RFA

Although my RfA is not over yet, I figured that since so many people voted before it had been posted, I may as well start thanking people before it wraps up. It'll take me that long to thank everyone who voted anyway! Thank you, Wikiacc - really, I wasn't one already, but it looks like I will be soon - and I'll do my best as an admin to make the reality rise to the level of the dream. Image needs to be removed

Hi.

Would you please remove this image? I dont have the photographer's permission anymore (lost it), and I cant reproduce it (I cant find him).

thanx.--Zereshk 23:44, 7 December 2005 (UTC)

Thanks for this information. I have deleted the image. --Wikiacc (talk) 02:20, 8 December 2005 (UTC)

RfC on Democrat userbox

FYI. I've named you as a co-conspirator in efforts to subvert Karmafist's edits on Template:User democrat. You can throw your 2 cents in on the RfC if you like. --StuffOfInterest 22:21, 8 December 2005 (UTC)

Just a quick clarification. The "co-conspirator" reference was meant as a joke. Being that you had made edits on the template I figured you would want to say something on the RfC. No malice intended. --StuffOfInterest 02:23, 9 December 2005 (UTC)

Early RFA thanks

Hi Wikiacc/Archive2005,

Thank you very much for your support on my RfA. It has done very well and is currently at 67/0/2. As such, I am posting this in advance of its closure. If I can ever help with anything or if you have any comments about my actions as an admin, please let me know. Thank you once again! – NSLE (T+C+CVU) 01:07, 9 December 2005 (UTC)
Congratulations. (BTW, out of curiosity, is there any particular reason behind the Katrina image?) --Wikiacc (talk) 01:12, 9 December 2005 (UTC)
"Actually, no, no particular reasoning behind that. Most RFA-thankers use a pic, and since I do quite a bit of work on cyclones I decided to use one of a hurricane (unfortunately for all the wrong reasons, Katrina jumped to mind...) NSLE (T+C+CVU) 01:16, 9 December 2005 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Avoid using meta-templates

Please do not use meta-templates. I can see in your edit summaries you acknowledge that point, yet going ahead anyway.

Also, if you want to experiment, don't use a "live" template like Template:Infobox City. -- Netoholic @ 19:00, 9 December 2005 (UTC)

Trouble on the Iranian pages

wikiacc,

Would you please monitor the West Azarbaijan page? User:Diyako has turned the page into a pro-Kurdih secessionist platform. He keeps taking down the POV tag I put up (in protest to the inaccurate information he has filled the page with), and keeps reverting all other editors as well. Thanx.--Zereshk 21:38, 9 December 2005 (UTC)

Thanks for the information. I am watching the page and will take necessary action in response to edit wars. --Wikiacc (talk) 22:22, 9 December 2005 (UTC)
Obviously, Ive reached my reverting limit. So I cannot do anything from here on for the day. I leave it all in your hands. Thanx again--Zereshk 22:28, 9 December 2005 (UTC)

Hi

No. I do not remove. this is zereshk who remove and revert credible information. and changes the name of the map. You can cheque the history of the page. Thank you Diyako Talk + 22:48, 9 December 2005 (UTC)

Yes, please do check the history of the page in the past week. He has been reverting other editors as well.--Zereshk 23:56, 9 December 2005 (UTC)

For Exemple here we can estimate. Kurds are Not a significant minority, more than this. Thank You Diyako Talk + 20:19, 12 December 2005 (UTC)

{{ru icon}}

Hi! Could you create the such (English) for Tatar language: tt. Thank you. --Untifler 19:32, 10 December 2005 (UTC)

I am sorry, but I no longer have the computer that I used to make Image:Symbole-sk.png; the computer I currently use does not have Franklin Gothic Medium installed (and I am unwilling to pay $20 for it). You should be able to find someone who is able to make it, or you may wish to make it yourself, which would not be very difficult provided you have an image editing program such as GIMP and the Franklin Gothic Medium font (which I believe is pre-installed on Windows). --Wikiacc (talk) 19:59, 10 December 2005 (UTC)

The Iran page

Hi,

The changes you made to the Iran page are wayyyyyy too drastic. The format of the page was something that numerous editors had agreed on. You have taken out sections completely, deleted key internal links (keeping links that do not really matter), and watered down the page significantly. The section on the government (with the sub-sections) needs to be restored definitely. We based the page's design on the United States article. Compare the page the United States to the new page of Iran and you will see that it compares very little.--Zereshk 22:29, 13 December 2005 (UTC)

I suggest that we keep your changes, but also retain some of the original formatting. The cities section, the political section, are 2 notable examples.--Zereshk 22:38, 13 December 2005 (UTC)

Hi Zereshk,
I based my changes on the guidelines at WikiProject Countries and a selection of featured country articles, among them China, India, Cambodia, Belgium and Nepal. (United States is not a featured article.) I agree that it could be scaled back in certain aspects (e.g. moving the cities section around the page rather than/in addition to moving it to a separate one). If it seems that I have reduced some parts of it to less than "brief summaries", please tell me where this has occured. --Wikiacc (talk) 23:30, 13 December 2005 (UTC)

Greetings,
Will it hurt if we base our page Iran on the model of United States, even if it is not listed on Wikiproject countries? The cities section is good to have on the main page. But the political section needs to be sub-partitioned. There is a good reason for the way we had it. If we could keep the former format, it would help out greatly, and greatly increase article feasibility in information transfer. It's great to have an admin like you around helping me out. I mean it. Thanx again.--Zereshk 01:51, 14 December 2005 (UTC)

ISNA

Hi.

Are we allowed to use images off of ISNA? I think not. Hence this image Image:Irangay teens.jpg , which has been downloaded from ISNA is copyright protected.--Zereshk 03:36, 14 December 2005 (UTC)

It would be considered copyright here; however, it is still usable under fair use defense, as it is a historical photo. --Wikiacc (talk) 20:11, 14 December 2005 (UTC)
So we can use ISNA photos here under a fairuse tag? ISNA has an excellent repository of photos that we could use.--Zereshk 22:08, 16 December 2005 (UTC)
We can use virtually any images considered copyright if we have an adequate fair use rationale for their use. See WP:FAIR for more details, but for the most part ISNA photos should make an excellent addition to Wikipedia as fair use media. --Wikiacc (talk) 22:11, 16 December 2005 (UTC)

Iranian Languages redirect to Languages of Iran

I reverted the redirects from Iranian languages to Languages of Iran. Please don't confuse the two. Iranian languages is a linguistic branch of the Indo-European language family. Languages of Iran are the languages that are found in the country of Iran. It's like confusing Germanic languages with Languages of Germany. There are plenty of Germanic languages outside of Germany (eg. English, Icelandic, Swedish, ...), and there are non-Germanic languages in Germany (eg. Upper Sorbian - a Slavic language, or Romany) --jonsafari 03:53, 16 December 2005 (UTC)

As a member of WikiProject Languages, I should have known that. Thanks for the catch. --Wikiacc (talk) 20:03, 16 December 2005 (UTC)
I apologize if it seemed a little too harsh. Also, I realized just after the fact that I should have moved the pages, instead of copying and pasting the material into a different article. My mistake. --jonsafari 03:49, 18 December 2005 (UTC)

RFA

Thank you for supporting my recent bid for adminship, which passed 64-2, though I found alarming the number of people who thought I already was an admin. — FREAK OF NURxTURE (TALK) 07:17, Dec. 17, 2005

(sigh)

I'm a bit worried for User:Striver receiving posts like this. Please keep an eye on this lunatic who calls himself User:Haizum. He seems highly confrontational and rude.--Zereshk 08:32, 17 December 2005 (UTC)

He also seems to be breaking a number of Wikipedia policies. It is my civic duty to report his comments and himself to the "User is blocked" page. :P --Wikiacc (talk) 18:25, 17 December 2005 (UTC)

Vandalism by 213.224.83.4

Thank you for fixing my user page. I have no idea why 213.224.83.4 is targetting me for vandalism. Can you block this IP address?? Can't sleep, clown will eat me 21:39, 17 December 2005 (UTC)

Another problematic image

Greetings,

Please erase this image: Image:Hafez Tomb 2.jpg so that I can upload pictures of it which I took.

Also, the picture gallery midway down the Isfahan (city) page has also been mostly marked for deletion.

I'll let you know if I catch any more cases.

Thanx.--Zereshk 02:47, 19 December 2005 (UTC)

This image is also not free, as far as I can see:

[Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Sturmgrenadier]

hi, there is an organized campaign to save the above self-promotional vanity games-club page from deletion.... i'm wondering if you'd be willing to take a look and voice your opinion? normally i wouldnt care but (a) i hate organized campaigns from groups of users (especially when they have vested interests but dont declare them) and (b) when challenged about it, they suggested i try it myself! so here i am.... cheers! Rogue

I've checked my dictionary carefully, and I'm sure I used the correct spelling of the correct word. I was however, blissfully unaware that other users used "rouge" for apparently humorous purposes. — FREAK OF NURxTURE (TALK) 14:53, Dec. 26, 2005
