Note: If you are visiting to express concerns because I have edited your user page to fix a disambiguation link, please bear in mind:
  1. I assume that you have the link there because you wish to point readers to the proper term (e.g "I speak Greek" or "I am Greek").
  2. It makes it much easier for those of us who are cleaning up disambiguation links from articles if there are fewer user pages cluttering up the "What links here" page.
Cheers! BD2412

Talk page archives

I have divided my archived pages by topic, rather than by date:

  • I archive frequently - if you post a comment here, do not be surprised if it has been put away by the next day. I reserve the right to delete frivolous posts.
  • My archiving is done primarly by the cut and paste method, although I occasionally archive long pages by page move. If you're looking for the edit history of a comment in my archives, it will likely be in the edit history of a page to which I moved a long archive.

[edit] Copyrights of machine-generated pictures

I'm wondering now about machine-generated images such as x-rays, MRI pictures, etc. Since those involve no human creative input, are they even eligible for copyright protection? Thanks. howcheng {chat} 16:38, 25 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Areas of Libya's subdivision

I saw your post at wikiproject_Libya. Unfortunatly, no data has been released (ufficial or unofficial) regarding areas, boundaries...etc. Be sure that they will be included in the article once they are out.-- hɑkeem¡ʇuɐɹɯǝǝʞɐɥ 00:15, 26 April 2008 (UTC)

Thank you, I appreciate the notice. Cheers! bd2412 T 00:26, 26 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Thank you

Thank you for honoring me with the page of templates with red links on basketball. I have already started cleaning out the blue links. -Basketball123456 (talk) 03:45, 26 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] A watchful reply.

Sure, I can do that. Have a good time. At least that guarantees you a break from Wikipedia. However, due to the olympics, you might actually be able to not deal with their web blocking.... Eh, who knows. Anyway, have fun, and I would be happy to keep a lookout for you. Prodego talk 01:03, 29 April 2008 (UTC)

We'll see when I get there - thanks! bd2412 T 03:14, 29 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Introduction...

Hello BD2412,

I am contacting you about project I started called Wiredtape (Why? Red Tape). The purpose of which is to help people deal with regulations and red tape needed to get things done. The reason I am contacting you - is because I saw you are a contributor to tax and other legal issues, which are relevant to my site. I think it is important to distinguish between Wikipedia's purpose and Wiredtape's. Wiredtape doesn't seek to provide historical or encyclopedic information about its subjects; Wiredtape seeks to provide in-depth information regarding the bureaucratic procedures and regulations, informative articles about the terminology and in-depth guides to these processes.

I would like you to become a contributor on Wiredtape. This is a bit direct, and I am sorry for that, but I am in need of contributors :) - moreover, through Wiredtape, I am also trying to make the internet (and life really) a nicer and simpler place.

I hope you might consider this, Thank you, --Bfhappy (talk) 16:57, 30 April 2008 (UTC)

You can contact me on my user talk page on Wikipedia, or on Wiredtape, or on IRC in #Wiredtape.

[edit] RFA Nom

It appears Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Kappa 3 will not be accepted. May I delete it? MBisanz talk 06:29, 1 May 2008 (UTC)

I'd rather you not - Kappa comes and goes, and eventually may get an RFA that sticks (even if that takes years). If that happens, I'd still like it to be this one. Cheers! bd2412 T 06:34, 1 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Please consider joining the working group for the WMF DC Chapter

Please consider joining the working group for the WMF DC chapter. Since we have a very active and very community oriented DC/MD/VA area group of Wikipedians, it only makes sense to develop it as a chapter, especially given the recent changes to the Board of Trustees structure, giving chapters more of a vote. Hopefully we will be either the first or the second officially recognized US Chapter (WMF Pennsylvania is pending as well), and hopefully our efforts will benefit WMF Penn as well. Remember, it's a working group, and this is a wiki, so feel free to offer changes, make bold changes to the group, and discuss on the talk page! I hope to see you there, as well as Wikimeetup DC 4 if you're attending. SWATJester Son of the Defender 16:48, 1 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Deleting a page with too much history

This is what I get for watchlisting Taxman's talk page... heh. It is not currently possible to delete these pages, for performance reasons. (Modifying 5000 entries in both the revision table and the archive table = database lock.) It is closer to being a developer task than a bureaucrat task. Titoxd(?!? - cool stuff) 08:19, 2 May 2008 (UTC)

Well, that's rather depressing. Guess I'll just have to live with it. Thanks anyway! bd2412 T 08:23, 2 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Templates with red links

The next dump doesn't seem to be coming as quickly as I thought it would, so I might take a pass at the old dump instead. I think I can sort pages according to the categories you requested; going back in the archives, I see you had earlier asked for a breakout of "elections", "MLB" and "TV" and "radio" templates; are those still needed? FYI, the approach I am taking is that if any of the terms you identified ("Indiana", "Road" or "Roads", etc.) appears in the template title as a whole word, regardless of capitalization, that template will get sorted into a subject-area subpage. --Russ (talk) 13:49, 2 May 2008 (UTC)

Thanks, that is perfect! bd2412 T 15:24, 2 May 2008 (UTC)
So, do you still want Elections, MLB, TV/Radio, or not? --Russ (talk) 16:22, 2 May 2008 (UTC)
Yep, I want 'em all. Ideally, I'd like to make a separate page for any term that is common to, say 50+ templates. bd2412 T 16:29, 2 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] New Project

Myself and several other editors have been compiling a list of very active editors who would likely be available to help new editors in the event they have questions or concerns. As the list grew and the table became more detailed, it was determined that the best way to complete the table was to ask each potential candidate to fill in their own information, if they so desire. This list is sorted geographically in order to provide a better estimate as to whether the listed editor is likely to be active.

If you consider yourself a very active Wikipedian who is willing to help newcomers, please either complete your information in the table or add your entry. If you do not want to be on the list, either remove your name or just disregard this message and your entry will be removed within 48 hours. The table can be found at User:Useight/Highly Active, as it has yet to have been moved into the Wikipedia namespace. Thank you for your help. Useight (talk) 17:13, 3 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Welcome back

I hope you the List of political and geographic subdivisions by total area pages in order. Most changes to the pages were pretty routine, some format adjustments (italicizing some things that were missed), adding some countries, the one exception being that User:Laomei did have a problem with using CIA factbook data for the size of the United States, you can see that discussion here. Hope you enjoyed your trip. Prodego talk 21:21, 30 May 2008 (UTC)

Thanks again - I've commented on Laomei's page with respect to my preferred solution. Cheers! bd2412 T 14:58, 31 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Moving bios to main space?

Hi, I noticed you have drafts of bios on Johann Gaudenz von Salis-Seewis and Johann Martin Usteri in your userspace. Any reasons why you keep them there, rather than moving them to mainspace were others can copyedit them? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Matthead (talkcontribs)

Still working on them - those are, I think, translations to be finished. But feel free to work on them, or move them if you want to work on them in the mainspace. Cheers! bd2412 T 00:00, 3 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Wikiproject Prisons Proposal

I would like to propose a new wikiproject regarding prisons, but I need some guidance on how to do so. I've noticed that while law, law enforcement, and human rights all have portals, none of these specifically address the creation of articles for individual prisons. I consider this to be a very important topic (a society is judged on its prisons after all) and there are other wikiprojects aimed at similar social institutions (schools has its own portal although I'm not quite sure what the difference is between a portal and a wikiproject). I'm not quite sure where to begin. Do I have to propose this in a specific place or can I just start working on it? Your help would be appreciated.--Cdogsimmons (talk) 15:20, 4 June 2008 (UTC)

You can just start it up. What you'll want to do is create a page at Wikipedia:WikiProject Prisons, then create a project tag and throw it on the talk page of articles under the purview of the project. That will attract people interested in the subject to support your efforts. Cheers! bd2412 T 19:46, 4 June 2008 (UTC)
I take that back - apparently, there is a committee that approves wikiprojects at Wikipedia:WikiProject Council/Proposals. Follow the instructions for making a proposal on that page, and please list me as an interested party. bd2412 T 19:47, 4 June 2008 (UTC)
Got it. I've started the discussion and listed your name here. Thanks for the help.--Cdogsimmons (talk) 01:42, 6 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Templates with red links/2007

Is it okay for me to create a separate template with the December 2007 Templates with red links on it? -Basketball123456 (talk) 22:29, 6 June 2008 (UTC)

Sure, but I don't know what the point would be. The January 2008 report capture most of the same data. bd2412 T 22:37, 6 June 2008 (UTC)
