Washington Township is the smallest of twelve townships in Harrison County, Indiana. As of the 2000 census, its population was 256.
[edit] History
Washington Townships first settlers were Jacob and Henry Funk and their families who settled there in 1805. The built a farm on the river flat where the Indian Creek flows into the Ohio.
The townships has two towns. New Amsterdam was founded in 1815 and Valley City in 1859.[3]
In 1986 and early archaic Indian site was excavated in the western part of the township. It is know as the Swan's Landing Archaeological Site.
