The district is in the southern part of the Province of Saskatchewan.

The electoral district was created in 1996 from Regina—Qu'Appelle and Regina—Wascana ridings.

Its Member of Parliament is Ralph Goodale, a former lawyer and broadcaster. He was first elected in 1974. He represents the Liberal Party of Canada. He serves in the Official Opposition as their House Leader.
