Wajir

Wajir is a town in North Eastern Province, Kenya. It is capital of the Wajir District. The town is located at around . It has a population of 32,207 [1999 census]. [1].
Wajir is located in an arid area prone to drought. In spring 2006 there was a severe famine. A new district was created in august 2007. It is called Wajir South district, and has its headquarters in Habaswein, 120km south of Wajir town.
The new district was carved from Wajir district and is fully operational, with a new Disctrict commissioner. The new district will divide the town of Wajir into two separate administration zones. Some of the major towns within wajir south district include Abakore, Sabuli 0°20'59.42"N 40° 6'44.66"E, Biyamadow, Sarif, Sala among others.
