I was hoping to find some facts regarding Waddy's arrest on charges of possession of child porn (see here), especially whether he was found guilty or exhonerated.

[edit] Is it Watchel or Wachtel?

There is a similar article at Waddy Watchel. If you know which spelling is correct, please merge the articles and create a redirect. --Jonathan O'Donnell 05:24, 5 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Richard Wachtel

Does anyone know if these two people are related? They seem to intersect in various LA bands of the 70s. Fantailfan 12:32, 10 September 2006 (UTC)

There is no Richard Wachtel - any reference to a Richard Wachtel in music databases is a misprint of his real name Robert. This info comes directly from Waddy. I'm in the process of making corrections to the erroneous use of the name Richard. (71.106.11.250 (talk) 16:43, 15 December 2007 (UTC))

[edit] False Sources and Unsourced Material

I just removed the unsubstantiated claim about his being "acquitted" of kiddie porn charges. The source was once false, then there was no source. The only way to be acquitted is with a trial, and a trial would have gotten far more press coverage than the arrest. There is no mention of a trial anywhere on the internet, while some reliable media outlets reported the arrest. This page says he got probation:

I don't know if that is true, but you don't get "acquitted" at trial, then sentenced to probation. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.235.244.140 (talk) 14:04, 11 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Hacking Continues to Censor this Page

It is almost comical how many times Wachtel or agents of Wachtel have hacked this page to conceal or alter information about the arrest on charges of possessing child pornography. There have been totally false claims of his being "acquitted", there have been phony references posted to bolster that lie, and the whole topic was deleted. I don't know how many times this has happened. It isn't just hacking and false postings on Wiki, either. Various websites that carry posts from anyone who cares to make them, regardless of the veracity of the statements, variously claim that he was "acquitted", "exonerated", or that the charges were "dismissed", but there is no reliable evidence of that on this page or anywhere else on the internet. This is dishonest and a disservice to the Wiki community, and just another deceitful act done to cover up another deceitful act. The next time this page is hacked to sweep this unpleasant topic under the carpet, the hacker will be in for a little surprise. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.235.228.39 (talk) 09:34, 21 February 2008 (UTC)

Response: I don't know who you are or why you're trying so hard to keep information on the Waddy Wachtel page that has nothing to do with his music. I'm not a hacker. It seems like maybe you're the hacker. If the only thing you believe is what you read on the internet, then you're bound to get a lot of wrong or unverifiable information. Even on wiki there are many inconsistencies, not to mention articles all over the internet that are erroneous. If you'd like to discuss this further, maybe we could get someone in a position of authority here to mediate? Thank you. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.106.45.57 (talk) 06:38, 2 March 2008 (UTC)

Wikipedia is an encyclopaedia - it is not here purely to say positive things about people or only talk about one particular aspect of someone's life (although in the case of Wachtel it is quite right that the majority of the article is about his music). As someone in the public eye any transgressions are likely to be reported whether he/you like it or not and this needs to be covered by Wiki without condoning a particular point of view, as is done here. I'm sure British footballer Ashley Cole, or TV presenter Johnny Vaughan would prefer that scandals relating to them were not present on their pages but they are part of their lives and need to be talked about in any article that purports to offer even a vaguely comprehensive overview.
