[edit] Fanbase

Vic Mignogna is a celebrity among fans of English anime dubs. His roles as characters such as Dark Mousy, Gawl Kudo, Edward Elric, and the evil Broly from the 3 Dragon Ball Z movies, along with his spirited interaction with his fans have earned him quite a following. He is a guest at many anime convention's around the world.

He has an official fanclub, "Risembool Rangers"[3] (named after Edward Elric's hometown in Fullmetal Alchemist), with 7,600+ members worldwide, including fellow voice actors Caitlin Glass and Scott McNeil. He hopes to reach over 10,000 fans. The group was founded in 2005. Vic's appreciation for his fans led to the creation of the short film Fullmetal Fantasy where he played Edward Elric.

There is a friendly rivalry between the Rangers and Travis Willingham's fan club, the Miniskirt Army. When both actors are at a convention together, the rangers set up a game of dodgeball between the two clubs.

He has stated in several interviews that he is also a fan of Fullmetal Alchemist, and that voicing the part of Edward Elric was probably the most memorable role in his voice acting career. These statements were made at Fullmetal Alchemist panels at anime conventions.

Vic says that playing Broly from Dragon Ball Z put a strain on his voice and usually doesn't do any Broly quotes at conventions. A popular fan favorite is the "Short rant" by Edward Elric or the "Miniskirt Line", the line which he has said to have plagued him ever since he said it, and became an internet phenomenon.

Vic has teamed with Steven Blum in making audio clips titled "Real Fans of Genius," which parodies Budweiser's Real Men of Genius radio commercials. These anime-themed clips talk about various stereotypical fans of the anime world. To date, four official recordings have been released, which include "Mr. Anime Cosplayer Guy," "Ms. Bewildered Con Mother," and "Mr. Hallway Sleeper Guy." At Kawaii Kon 2007, Vic and Steve debuted a new live version made exclusively for the convention itself, entitled "Mr. Kawaii Kon Volunteer Worker Guy." He also did a similar, but renamed version for Otakon 2007 entitled "Mr. or Ms. Determined Otakon Attendee."

At anime conventions, Vic Mignogna takes great pains to leave a good impression of himself in the minds of his following. He enthusiastically greets his fans at conventions and spares a lot of time for autograph seekers. He also interacts with his guests by telling stories and doing character imitations. He said at the Toronto Anime Con recently that he is a huge anime fan since the days of Voltron and Speed Racer. At Acen he added on a 4 hour autograph session and an extra panel due to the overwhelming enthusiasm of the fans there.

[edit] Trivia

He likes raspberries, loves Battlestar Galactica, and is also a huge fan of the Star Wars movies and the Star Trek series. He hosts his own fan site called Lightsaberworld.com.[4] He also likes to cosplay, and appeared at Ikkikon 2008 wearing a Captain Kirk uniform from TOS complete with boots, pants and phaser set to "pocky".

There have been a few accusations and rumors regarding that Vic had been banned from the Florida Conventions Anime Festival Orlando (AFO), MegaCon, and MetroCon. Vic Mignogna indicates these rumors are untrue. "For the record, I am not banned from any of those cons," Vic stated. "I have never been unpleasant to anyone at cons." Later, this letter was written by the director of MegaCon in order to clear things up:

To whom it may concern,

It has come to my attention that a false statement has been posted on the Wikipedia site. The post stated that Megacon has banned voice actor Vic Mignogna from their convention.

My name is Beth Widera and I am the Owner/Director of Megacon and I would like the readers of this post to know that it is a totally false statement. Megacon and its entire staff have nothing but the utmost respect for Vic Mignogna and have in fact invited him back for their 2009 show.

I don't know why someone would post something as hateful as this, but if that person happens to read this statement my hope would be that they would keep in mind the lives and feelings they affect when they make such false statements.

Sincerely, Beth Widera MegaCon PO Box 1097 Safety Harbor, FL 34695
