Talk:Victoria Island (Canada)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
There is a little notch in the boundary between Nunavut and the Northwest Territories. It would be nice, if someone knew why that notch is there, could explain it. Ducky 04:24, 15 April 2007 (UTC)
- Traditional land use. The boundary commission would have determined that the lake was being used more by people from Ulukhaktok, Northwest Territories than from Kugluktuk, Nunavut or Cambridge Bay, Nunavut. It also might have been to help compensate for the loss of access to other parts of the island and the mainland that are now part of Nunavut. But of course no sources. [edit] Why split it up?
If the citizens of Ulakhaktok are mostly Native People won't they want to be in the new territory of Nunavut?
- The Inuvialuit people of Ulukhaktok, Sachs Harbour and Paulatuk along with the Inuvialuit of Tuktoyaktuk, Inuvik and Aklavik all belong to the Inuvialuit Settlement Region and is a different land claims group than that covering the Inuit of Nunavut, see Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami.
