- Venezuela will join the Mercosur as a formal member in December of the current year. The decision was confirmed by the Uruguayan Foreign Relations Minister, Reinaldo Gargano, after a reunion among heads of states in the Spanish city of Salamanca. According to this, Venezuela would become the fifth official member of the trade bloc. Reuters
- The Venezuela national football team defeats the Internazionale 1-0 in a friendly meeting.
- Ozzie Guillén leads the Chicago White Sox to their first victory in a World Series since 1917. With this, Guillén becomes the first Latin American to win this kind of championship ever.
- Venezuela and Colombia sign an agreement to construct a binational gas pipeline. Reuters

- The government wins 114 seats in the parliamentary elections, with the rest being occupied by government allies.

- Venezuelan police recovered stolen radioactive material used in the oil industry in Anzoátegui State. Fortunately, there are no signs of contamination. Reuters
- The Leones del Caracas win the 2005-2006 baseball championship for the first time in eleven years.
- The Viaduct N°1 in the Caracas-La Guaira highway, falls down partially.
- The Faddoul brothers, who were kidnapped nearly one month ago, are found dead. As a product, massive demonstrations against insecurity and delinquency are carried out in Caracas and Maracaibo. The Government denigrated the murders and starts mass investigations about the facts.
- The remains of Viaduct N°1 are detonated.
- President Chávez announces the withdrawal of Venezuela from the Andean Community of Nations. Reuters
- The Federal Aviation Administration raises the aerial safety rating of Venezuela to Category 1. FAA Press Release
- The National Guard tries to restore order in the Universidad de los Andes in Mérida, at the second day of student unrest concerning universitary autonomy. Reports say armoured vehicles have entered the university campus.
- Venezuela is accepted as an observer member in the Arab League.
- Line 4 of the Caracas Metro is opened to public use, running from Capuchinos station to Plaza Venezuela.
- Zulia governor, Manuel Rosales, is designated by opposition parties as the unitary candidate for the 2006 presidential elections. The other presidential candidates withdrawed their candidacies in support of Rosales. The primary elections for August 13 were cancelled by Súmate.
- Ex opposition leader Carlos Ortega and four other military companions, escape the Ramo Verde Prison, where they remained inmates.
- The Venezuela national football team loses 0-1 to Switzerland.
- The Venezuela national football team wins 1-0 in a friendly match against Austria.
- The Ezequiel Zamora Rail System is openen to public service, between Caracas and Tuy Medio. The rail is expected to relieve highway traffic to the city.
- In the United Nations, the competition between Venezuela and Guatemala for a non-permanent seat in the Security Council remains stalemated, after 35 voting rounds.
- Mayré Martínez wins the Latin American Idol contest, being the first one to do so.
- The Los Teques Metro subway system is opened for a limited service.
- Benjamín Rausseo, Er Conde, withdraws his presidential candidacy for the 2006 elections.
- The Valencia Metro is un-officially opened to free service.
- Hugo Chávez is reelected for another presidential term, with a 63% of the vote. Manuel Rosales, who achieved a 37% of the popular vote, recognized the results.
- The President states that the government won't renew the broadcasting license to the RCTV TV channel since next May.

- The National Assembly approves the revaluation of the bolívar at a ratio of 1 to 1,000 bolívares since January 2008. The new currency will be called the Bolívar Fuerte (Bs. F).
- The private TV channel Radio Caracas Televisión goes off the air, given the Government refusal to renew the broadcasting license for this station.
- Large demonstrations were held across the country in backup of RCTV, freedom of speech and pluralism.
- Students of the most important universities in Caracas, Valencia, Maracaibo and other cities, continue the massive rallies and demonstrations in support of the RCTV TV channel and freedom of expression, in the fifth consecutive day of the May 2007 RCTV protests. Wikinews
