Vaksdal  is a municipality in the county of Hordaland, Norway.

Vaksdal was created as a new municipality January 1, 1964 - after the merger of parts of Bruvik, Evanger and Modalen.

[edit] The name

The Norse form of the name was probably *Vágsdalr. The first element is then the genitive case of vágr m 'bay', the last element is dalr m 'valley, dale'.

[edit] Coat-of-arms

The coat-of-arms is from 1990. It shows three shuttles for weaving, which represents the textile industry of the municipality.
