The United Christian Democratic Party is a political party in South Africa. It is led by former Bophuthatswana Bantustan leader Lucas Mangope. The party's mission statement stresses the need for Christian values, non-racial democracy, and government inducements for personal self-reliance, while the 2004 manifesto attacks the ANC for, among other things, its alleged softness on crime, nepotism, and neglect of South African infrastructure.[1]

At the 2004 elections, the party won 117,792 votes (0.75% of the national total), and 3 seats in Parliament, representing neither a gain nor a loss from the preceding elections. They also won 3 seats and 8.49% of the vote in the 2004 elections to the legislature of the North West Province, their main power base.[2]

According to a survey conducted by the Human Sciences Research Council in 2003, 85% of UCDP voters are female.[3]

The UCDP is the main opposition party to the ANC in the North West – a province where, it should be noted, ANC support is extremely strong.
