[edit] internal combustion steam engine

I see the phrase "an internal combustion steam engine" in the text of this article and also at the National Park Service web site. Could HPB/JMP, anyone else at NPS, or any of the authors of this wikipedia article explain what an internal combustion steam engine is? I have heard of external combustion Steam engines, and I have heard of an Internal combustion engine but I have not heard of internal combustion steam engines before. I suspect that most fuels and oxidizers used for internal combustion engines would have their combustion hampered by the introduction of steam. Can anyone explain this internal combustion steam engine technology of the 19th century that was apparently used in Rhode Island? Perhaps citing another reference that explains it would be helpful. Thanks. 164.55.254.106 (talk) 18:34, 9 April 2008 (UTC)

I guess the author means "reciprocating steam engine".
