Ariza attended Westchester High School in Los Angeles, where as a junior he combined with teammate and fellow future NBA player Hassan Adams to lead the Comets to the California State championship.
[edit] NBA
Ariza was drafted by the Knicks at age 19, after spending just one year at UCLA. Ariza started his career coming off the bench as the youngest rookie in Knicks history.[1]. Ariza then earned himself starting honors with the Knicks under Larry Brown, as the team attempted to implement a youth movement, until 2005 draft pick David Lee replaced him. On February 21, 2006, Ariza was traded to the Orlando Magic along with Anfernee "Penny" Hardaway in exchange for Steve Francis.
On November 20, 2007, Ariza was traded to the Los Angeles Lakers in exchange for Brian Cook and Maurice Evans.[2]He fractured a bone in his right foot in January 2008, but made his return in game 2 of the Western Conference finals against the San Antonio Spurs in late May, scoring a basket within his first minute of play.
[edit] Personal
Ariza's youngest brother died after falling out of a hotel window in Venezuela from the 30th floor.[3]
